Photo dump of me and my girlfriend’s over-landing trip through the Ozark and Ouachita National park. Beautiful and rainy weekend. No bears sadly. That’s what my Colorado/Wyoming trip is for ;)

unfortunately my son and i had our wives with us, so we couldn’t explore like we wanted to.

it’s only about 5 hours from here, so we will be back.

    A little a this, a little a that...
I visited the San Juan's last week. I've wanted to make this trip for years and finally did it! Made a stop in Monument Valley on the way. It did not disappoint.

In the early 1970s I spent time with the BLM and one of my tasks was to get the summit registers every 2-3 weeks from Engineer and Cinnamon passes. They furnished me with a 2nd Dodge with 2-200 lb oil pump weights bolted over the wheel wells. One turn was impossible to crawl around, so I would hit 30 mph and slide my rear around, then gun it in 2nd gear getting just enough traction to making. Haven’t been over either in maybe 40 years.

This is actually a pretty high bridge. Here's a photo I found from highestbridges.com, from just after it was constructed:

    21NewBidwellPostcard.jpg

Speaking of construction, here is the rebuilt spillway of that dam.

    DSC00565s.jpg

This dam nearly failed back in 2017!

    (2017 -- from the above-linked wikipedia article)

In typical California irony, the whole area just burned a month ago. Still bright-red streaks of retardant crisscrossing the roads. Another fire started the next day, too, but they knocked it down pretty quick.

    DSC00525s.jpg
A massive 'arena' comprises the new emergency spillway.

    Further to the south:

This is as scenic as it gets until I get some time off work. This is at my mother’s place, where I grew up. Some might say I never really grew up. IMG_5847.jpg

I headed back out to the desert today to do some drone flying, the area is pretty scenic and a little remote.

We're in another heat wave, it was about 105F out there.:tumbleweed:

That's Lake Oroville, My family still lives there and I fish that lake all the time. So thats what the bottom of the lake looked life before it was filled with water. I was also in town visiting when the spillway broke. nuts.
