Just be happy that you can use a conventional opener. I have very low clearance and had to go with one of those fancy side mount. Almost $500 compared to like $200

 

This is why 4th gen is best gen

 

I'm surprised you don't have more stations that sell that near you being rural and stuff. There's like 5 stations near me with it that also have offroad diesel. Handy as I was filling up the oil tank 15 gallons at a time when the oil company was pretty high in price. I did have them go ahead and fill it last month as it was down to $2.66 delivered. Now I gotta tear apart the burner and order a new nozzle and pump filter

 

I didn’t have to change it. But, good thing I did.
Door is shot. I didn’t know how bad.


This is the last repair on these doors.
Will have to check finances next few years.

I hate those side winders.
Like you said, more expensive.

Harder to work on.
I also hate the wind up springs.
The whole thing has to be disassembled.

 

Southern Maine isn't so rural anymore. They are more prevalant in other parts of the state with the popularity of ATV's, Side by Sides, Snowmobiles, etc.

Unfortunately doors are stupid expensive now-adays. Mine was a little bit of an off size at 6'9" tall (yes, there's a joke in there...) and 9' wide. It was $1800 installed without the opener

However, it's insulated and a well built door. Was going to make the 2.5hr trip to Menards to pick one up, but they're cheap crap that wouldn't hold up. I know the one I have will last a long time.

Ah, you getting infiltrated by the city yokels as well? Most of the expensive developments around here are people who commute to DC and the such. When C19 hit and people went remote a flood people moved out of the city and into my area. Now a bunch are being forced back into the office and you know what? I have no sympathy...

 

Oh yes we are...all the same reasons. Everything gets bought up just to flip to a short term rental.

This is the second time I’ve fixed this door.
This door gets limited sun. So never dries out.
Don’t need insulation so cheaper.
I’m thinking $800 to $1000 each.
I need windows or else I feel like I’m working in a box plus, I can see any undesirables ……

 

Everyone's house is. Wait until taxes catch up. Selling is easy, it's finding something else that's the challenge.

They've never experienced living in a house doing a reno at the same time. Lived through that at my old house down South.

 

Mine's jumped well over $200K since 2020.

 

I didn't "need" insulation as well, but the insulated ones are a much better and sturdier door. Something to consider. Not sure on your budget, nor does anybody need to really know, but I would definitely recommend it.

 

You mean it's not as easy as the DIY shows depict?
