Forgot about those. Still shouldn't be happening with Toyota's flagship engine.

Very true, but compared to other manufacture's it isn't too bad. I mean, it isn't good, but not terrible.

Seeing them out on the road, Gen4 sure looks tempting. But to be safe, it’s probably a good idea to hold off buying any trim of Tacoma for another year or so, or at least until Sheldon and his crack team of engineers can solve the surprisingly complex issue of, um…

    ….”debris”.

We’re in the same boat. I purchased my January 24 build in late April, shortly after it hit the lot. I have 3k miles and first noticed shifts between 1 & 2 close to 2k miles. I wouldn’t necessarily call the shifts “hard”, just a bit more noticeable. Like others have reported, that’s only after first starting in the morning. That said, my 3rd gen shifted MUCH harder when hunting gears.

As Gfenza said, it would be nice to know which trucks were affected. Toyota may say they know, but do they?

Yup mines same way, 1-2 in the morning noticeably “harder” not bad though. Trans is deff a little clunky when in traffic but my 3rd gen was the same way. Toyota deff needs to come out and let us owners know who’s vins are affected by this. I suggest calling corporate and filing a concern. I called yesterday and filed my request for info on this, the more people that call the faster we’ll get an answer

Hah, acquired mine in April as well. I guess if it fails, it fails. If the truck turns into a dumpster fire I'll just let them have it at the end of the lease (I know, I know, I don't need any lectures from financial gurus around here) and get something else. Kinda the plan anyways.

One thing’s for sure, it would be best for Toyota to tell affected owners that they have a problem before their trucks do. If they know, as they claim, then make it right now. Most of us would rather deal with a minor inconvenience over a major one, and we would respect Toyota for being proactive.

Sheldon brown explains how they found the problem. The problem for owners is they haven’t told us who’s affected

The transmission broke on a new 2024. It went to the dealer to be fixed. The old transmission went back to Toyota.

    That's it.

I would want to know how it got in there. It's been a good while ago but I rebuilt transmission for a living, the biggest part of the overhaul was cleanliness including all the parts new or used. Sounds to me like something garnered and they don't know why.

Compared to what goes wrong with other manufactures it isn't terrible in comparison.

If so, it would be nice to know the cause from an engineering standpoint and what Toyota and Aisin have done to correct the auto trans issue.
Over on the over 4G Tacoma sites there have been more than a few failures that typically start with similar symptoms.

It’s hard to distinguish the symptoms related to the failures. Lot of people talk about the “hard” shifts but don’t have failure and others say the hard shift leads to failure. Toyota really needs to clear this up. If their game plan is to just make us wait and find out if our trans fails while driving that’s really messed up on their part

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
I have had about a dozen Toyota trucks ... 3 Tundras and 9 Tacomas. On my 2007 Tundra, my transmission went out at about 500 miles. 2007 was a new model year if I remember. Toyota treated me VERY WELL ... new transmission ... very nice rental to use ... and a free platinum warranty.

On my 3rd RAV4 since 2019 and love these things too. Looking at another Tacoma soon but will miss the old 4.0 & 3.5 V-6 engines. I am too old school on the engines ... not a big fan of turbos on small engines except in a race car.

All failures started with hard shifts, but not all hard shifts resulted in failures.

    -- Probably Toyota TSB
