Took the words out of my mouth.
I use mineral spirits regularly for some applications.(at work)
Others I use a barsol, that evaporates more quickly.
Mineral Spirits leaves an oily residue.

I would never of thought that the plastic shopping carts at Festival Foods could do that much damage.

can you post some pics of where it’s coming off? Is it peeling, or rock chips? Rock chips will happen unless you go “full mudguard” on your Tacoma. Peeling is a different story that points to contaminants or surface prep. Mineral spirits are good to cut the greasy stuff, but a final acetone rubdown really cleans it. You’d be amazed at what comes off perfectly clean looking steel when wiped down with acetone.

For that bumper, a naval jelly type acids would be good to etch all the little inaccessible corners inside. But you’ll need lots of water and bushes to clean it all off. Rustoleum even makes a sprayable gel that you can use to etch. Just follow the directions on it.

oh, if that’s what you’re talking about, that’s normal. Nothing will stand up to the forces of several thousand pounds sliding over a rock on less than a few square inches. If you look at the rock that did that, it probably didn’t do much better.

That scratch right there…it’s what you leave unrepaired for the summer just so other people know you wheel, bro!

Before winter, wash it good, buy a small tin of krylon, dress the area with some sandpaper, and brush on new paint.

As long as you don’t have peeling paint you’re good. That was the problem with my powder coat. It wasn’t actually sticking to the steel in a lot of places. But being thick powdercoat, it looked fine on the outside. But any little gravel chip would allow water behind poorly adhered areas, and the rust grew behind it, without being able to see it until it was too late.

If it makes you feel better, I didn't drive away unscathed.
After a deeper cleaning this morning evidence of an assault have been revealed.

The dent starts under the 'D' with a scuff headed toward my damn tailight, again.

I didn't spend my Sunday quite as planned. My brothers stopped by after breakfast with the family, and we had a few beers and BS. As they were heading out, I got stung by a bee. Didn't think much of it, but I started getting itchy. Then I noticed a rash, and felt a weird. I did some googling and decided I probably should go to urgent care. They sent me to ER.

Felt like I might have been overreacting, but they gave me a prescription for some drugs and sent me home.

Good times! I'm sure this isn't going to cost a ridiculously inappropriate amount of money. o_O
