Skip if it’s too soon; I’m insensitive.

Glass half full, your reduced wheelbase will help on a lot of trails. Now you just need to bob the bed.

Well I've been busy this year but hopefully you guys are out having fun!

We got to be on the park fire pretty early on and it was nice to be able to do our job for realzies. If your home is one of the ones we didn't make it to in time I'm damn sorry, I know my guys did their best. A lot of us were doing 48+ without sleep and it was a lot of ground to cover. To the owner of the 4 runner, my apologies on the snorkel and lights but it was hot and they're now custom melted.... one of a kind some might say.

But we got off this after about 20 some days and my family was almost in the same boat. Gotta say it was a bit unsettling to have work and home so close together.

I hope you guys are being safe, having fun, and making (at least to some extent) decent choices.

Pick and Pull Row 17 in Rancho Cordova. 1999 Access cab red.

was hoping to get the all pro rear bumper and the bench seats. Completely stripped by the time I got there.

Bilstein 5100 with OME coils, rear leaf pack is still there in the truck if anyone is looking. Also some after market tail lights.

    ARB locker and motor gone.

Anyone have someone/ recommendations in the area with a plasma table setup to help me cut a welding table top?
Hoping to finish this project before I get down and dirty with the roll cage.

I have the 1/4” sheet and Cad files ready togo.
Stock size is optimized for a 4’x4’ table capacity

    4 run, 2 don't
As someone who has actually cut out a fixture, had one done locally, and bought one that was machined, I can share a few things.

    1. If you get it done via CNC plasma, you will have to go through reaming out each and every single hole. This is because of the naturally occurring bevel that is present in plasma and the shape of the flame. Now, I cut a lot on my CNC plasma table and get some square edges but normally fixture tables have holes measuring within a thousandth of an inch. For this reason, anytime fixtures are done on CNC plasma they are undersized a hair before they're reamed out.

    2. I would advise against 1/4" as it's too thin. You'll warp the surface easily over time as you use any fixtures to clamp your material down.

    3. On top of the whole clamping thing, 1/4" is pretty thin and will warp over time with heat from welding.

    4. Find someone locally to laser or waterjet your setup, you'll get far better accuracy and you won't run into the holes not being ready to use like you do with plasma.

Here's the one I did for fun. Free since I always have extra steel and made it out of scrap. Literally just gave it away a few days ago -

    20231019_140255.jpg

    20231019_144212.jpg

Here's the one I got laser cut locally. Was only $158 which included the material itself (3/8" steel plate) as well as the labor for laser cutting. The legs, shelf, etc were all made from left over scrap -

    20231021_143331.jpg

    20231021_143339.jpg

And lastly, a cast and machine finished fixture that's also 3/8" thick for just under $1,000 -

    20240823_160853.jpg

    20240823_160924.jpg

If I did it all over again, I'd go straight to the cast and machined fixture from the get go.

But if you want to save money, get it done on laser or waterjet.

And since you have the CAD files, I assume you're going with some sort of top with a tab and slot ordeal underneath? I'd nest it and see how much steel it uses IE one or two 4' x 8' or 5' x 10' and figure your raw material costs followed by labor.

Most shops will want you to buy the steel from them if they're doing laser or waterjet from you so it shouldn't be much.

All good points, The reaming is definitely something I was planning. i have accounted for tab/slots for trussing aswell, everything fits on a 4x8 sheet. final shape is 2x 3x3 squares cross braced for stiffness. This definitely wont be a heavy duty fixture top. But I believe it will work for my purposes. And 1/4” is what I got to use so Im making it work for me. Id love to get my hands on a cast table once I have a better budget and a more permanent garage/ shop space.
Im getting ready to install my cab cage in a garage that only has about 2-3ft of clearance on either side of the truck:anonymous:
