I bought new 2021 off-road and code p11ec00 at 16,916 miles showed up. New head was replaced and all intake and exhaust valves on bank one cylinder. Valve crash / valve failure was the cause. No explanation why it happened. Well now at 40,000 miles same code, same cylinder, same fix, same problem. Now what happens if this happens again and warranty is up in another 20,000 miles. How can I trust it will be fixed properly. Should be an engine replacement as far as I’m concerned. In a rough spot. Vehicle is in shop as we speak. Any advise?

Maybe they can extend your warranty even if it's just to cover the engine.

I'd be arguing for the platinum warranty if I was OP, especially since this is twice.

Very very few of us have had to deal with a similar situation, so you are likely to get mostly BS advice. Personally I would relax wait and see what happens. If they are fixing it for free, it’s not worth losing sleep over.

It is worth losing sleep over if it happens again in 20k miles, out of warranty. I’d probably at least go to a different dealer than who did the first job.

Mostly agree but it's the same issue two times, I wouldn't have much confidence in the vehicle even with the low miles.

Good news is that they hold value very well, and honestly the dealer may be willing to get you a great deal on trading in for a 4th gen

I guess my point though is that you can cross that bridge when you get to it. How can you be proactive? Legally the dealer is honoring the warranty. OP has no legal argument until they don’t. Disclaimer: I’m not a lawyer.

Worry about what you can control.

That said, I would consider taking the truck to a different shop for a second opinion, I agree.

Well, I guess that’s the exact problem he’s pondering. Wait until 60k and be out of pocket for a potentially 6-10K repair? I’d probably get it fixed again and then sell it, or try hard to get them to do a full motor swap if I really liked the specific truck and wanted to keep it. I would be too uneasy about a second repair attempt with only 20k warranty left.

    It’s a tough call regardless.

True, I think bare minimum he should argue for the extended warranty though if he's keeping it

Agree, that would at least give the latest repair more time to prove itself.

As well as more overall confidence in the truck. What if the other head does the same thing?

One curiosity I have… I have never read the entirety of my warranty. If a very important part (aka engine, block, head, transmission, etc.) is installed in my truck under warranty due to a manufacturing defect, does the warranty on the part start from the time it was installed or when I bought the truck? I’m guessing it is the later, but I’m not actually sure.

I agree with asking for the extended warranty, they may say no but it doesn’t cost anything to ask. If you don’t get that I’d probably just trade it off 10-15k miles down the road.

It depends on the state. My state it applies for as long as the warranty is active

Thanks everyone, I called Toyota and created a case number. Toyota sent this to my dealers case relations manager. I will be expecting a call from him. I want to request a build inspector to take a look at the motor considering first repair didn’t fix the problem and hope to understand the underlying problem before fixing the exact same way. Will go from there, and at least make the problem more known and that I’m unhappy.

The heartbreaker of it all is that I’m on my last few payments on my loan. My trade in value would be around $28,000 and new off-roads are $60,000 with taxes/fees and higher interest rates just doesn’t make sense.
