That’s the fridge I got for free that was originally destined for the scrapyard until I found it worked. The seal on the door is very temperamental, and if Pierce got in by himself, I guarantee you he would have gotten out. The fridge is fine if a human shuts the door properly…

 

I just finished mowing grass and was blowing my boot out with compressed air and noticed a snake starting to enter beside me. Realized it was a copperhead, so quickly rushed off for a shovel and then waited till it got close enough!

When we lived in Virginia Beach from 1998 to 2000, in the summer of 1999, we got a Water Moccasin at our house. My dad and I were about to go to the pool at NAS Oceana, and the snake was discovered hiding under a bush right near the front door. The snake stood its ground, my mom doesn't like even nonpoisonous snakes, and my dad didn't want to mess with it. Our neighbor Dave, who was a Navy SEAL, happened to show up and ask what was going on. My dad told him about the snake, and I forget whether he went to his house and got his own shovel or borrowed one from my dad, but went right up to the snake and beheaded it before it even knew what happened. The snake was given plenty of opportunity to leave, but Water Moccasins are known for being very aggressive and standing their ground. Our Navy SEAL neighbor buried the head because it still had fangs and venom, and the body was tossed into the woods behind our house.

Before I tell this story, I would like to make it abundantly clear that I had permission to be in the house and nobody pulled a gun on me...

My friend and former boss Sam married a guy named Matt in 2018 or 2019, and they bought a house together in late 2019. This must have happened sometime in 2020. Both of them were busy at their respective jobs, and if I remember correctly, Sam texted me. She asked if I was in the area and if so, could I let the dogs out?

I responded that I was in the area and drove over to their house to let Tully and Murphy out. At the time, they were still keeping their doors unlocked. For some reason, I was wearing shoes and had sandals with me, and I decided to change into the sandals for some reason; I let the dogs out, topped off their water, and left, leaving my shoes by mistake.

I didn't realize that I had forgotten my shoes until I was in the truck and had driven a few miles from the house, and at that moment, Matt called me and asked if I'd left a pair of shoes behind; I told him that I had.

Matt went on to tell me that he had just gotten home, seen an unfamiliar pair of shoes there, immediately grabbed his handgun, and started sweeping the house room by room because he thought it might be a burglar. Had I still been there when he got home from work, he would have seen my truck and known it was me. Only after grabbing his gun and sweeping the house did it occur to him that the shoes might be mine.

Matt is a high school gym teacher by day and a bartender by night, and if I remember correctly, he had to go right to the bar not long after getting home. He locked the house this time and left my shoes on the front porch; I immediately drove back and grabbed my shoes, by which time he was already gone. After that incident, they no longer left the house unlocked when they weren't home!
