I agree that it is not the best navigation system out there. I would personally love it if Garmin would make some kind of plug-in device that I could plug into the back of my Entune system, and then have it come up on the Entune screen as a Garmin GPS. Garmin does beat the Entune navigation up one side and down the other. Example, if I set a destination on the Entune GPS, when I get there, it says "You have arrived at your destination..." and that is all. Well, there have been times when I set an address, and when I got there, the Entune said "You have arrived at your destination", but I didn't know on WHICH SIDE OF THE ROAD my destination WAS! Both times, it was a commercial business that I was going to, and on both sides of the road, there were big office buildings, and until I actually pulled off the road and into the parking lot of one of them, it was only then that I saw the actual address of that particular building, and as it turned out, my destination was on the opposite side of the road. Whereas, the Garmin would tell me something like "Your destination is ahead on the RIGHT". Also, last year, I had driven my truck across the country, and had gone to the Richmond VA airport, and had lunch there. When I left, I was going to my hotel to check in. I tried to enter the address for the hotel, and it would not come up at all, on the Entune GPS! And it is not like it was a new hotel or a new road or anything either. Fortunately, I had also brought along my trusty Garmin, and with it, I was able to enter the destination and arrived at my hotel. When I got back and went to the dealer for my 10,000 mile service, I told him about it and he basically just shrugged it off as user error, which it was not. But I have to admit that while it is not perfect, the Entune GPS has been pretty good over the last 1.5 years that I have had my truck, but I do admit that there were a couple of times that it did take me on a strange route, although I did arrive at my destination.

Just one instance visited Ottawa Ontario, what a POS. I don't expect the best for OR but in a major city? We were looking for the air and space museum and we couldn't find the street. Tried the GPS and it took us several KM down the road, made us do a U-turn and then took us right back, in very heavy traffic, to where we started. Goggle maps (sp wrong on porpoise) although not perfect is way better and at least gives you a better heads up. I also use it off line as I don't have much data.

You are using 2020 road data on that chip. Try doing it with 2017 data, wanna trade? Forget it. They took all the secondary and now closed off-road BLM and Forest Service trails off of the newer editions so I’m not giving mine to nobody! :burp:

But it is funny when it tells me to get into the left lane to turn left onto the freeway but then the newer entrance ramp is in the far right lane!

A couple of weeks a go someone told of finding some older lady wandering in desert with no more water and no clue where she was. She trusted the GPS to take "shortest route" to her family using her coupe. But it took her into the desert on roads that challenge even a Tacoma. He saved her and set her on the correct path. Such blind reliance will soon provide candidates for a "Darwin Award".

Several people make the same but often fatal mistake in Death Valley every couple years. They simply don’t get what would happen if their vehicle got stuck or stopped working and they had to endure surviving out there for at least a day or longer without ample water and other supplies.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
The Toyota navigation system sucks. I tried it once the day I bought the truck, then switched to Google Maps through Android Auto.... which still sucks, but at least it sucks less.

Like the person who lost their slip-on sandals in the dunes and did NOT immediately retrieve them. At least 2nd degree burns I believe on the feet.

A month ago in PHX in South Mountain Park (desert-like park 15 miles by 6 miles in the center of Phoenix ... visitors from elsewhere were hiking from 9 AM till 3 PM. The 10-year-old son died from heat exhaustion.

When it feels THAT hot ... treat the situation like it is. In PHX even low 90s can heat-exhaust if you do not have enough water due to direct-sun.

I was out with my dad one day, on a paved road, when the GPS told us to ford the river, despite there being a perfectly good bridge 100 yards upstream.

I've also had it tell me to drive through chain link fences, and concrete barricades.

Unfortunately, too many people blindly trust this technology, instead of trusting their own eyes. It can be extremely useful, especially when you drive all over the city for a living, but you still need to use your judgement, and know how to read a map.

People allow their vehicles to drive ... just take their hands off the wheel. Knit, crochet, text, watch movies, take a nap ... who needs to actually drive their car as long as the GPS ties into the steering wheel?:facepalm::smack:

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
Garmin Oregon 650 T - is my way. Yes, screen is small (using with magnifier mount), but for around the land/off roading/ hiking is #1. Google maps in the city, if I need help.
Agree, HU factory navigation (Pioneer???) sucks.

If your truck has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, try using the phone navigation apps

I used Waze and I’ve traveled to many different places under my previous job and used Waze to navigate me. It has never let me down

I’ll have to admit, though, my Entune GPS Nav has led us on some amazing trails and cow paths it calls roads to some great places when we go off road trekking. It actually shows most all of the BLM and Forest Service trails, and in Eastern Oregon it had future county roads that were planned but not developed yet shown on it. This one led us to a really cool canyon but we had to do a lot of boulder moving in some spots and go through a few cowboy gates (those that use barbed wire hinges and a wire loop as a latch).

On the subject of "roads that are not meeting expectations" ... This road was reached by dirt roads from a southeast direction, moving toward Rainbow Valley AZ ... just south of Phoenix in Estrella Mountain region. Before reaching this "pavement" was dirt, is crumbled junk road after that until real road is reached to get the hell away from there. When/why the locality decided to not maintain their roads is their business, and I will likely never return.
