I think when I PMed you I said plain tied down so you knew I didn’t want a bottle opener.

One paint I've really grown to like for items I had to paint was the textured stuff offered by Rustoleum.

Mainly because it hides any flaws that are made visible as a novice spray painter.

Just a small panel I made as a small request from two members here.

    20240817_095748.jpg

The key is prep - I wipe down everything with acetone before doing anything else with it.

    20240817_100008.jpg

When I primer something, I let it sit for several days without touching it at all.

    20240817_132532.jpg

After paint, I let it sit for a few more days to let it cure completely.

    20240820_094136.jpg

    20240820_094048.jpg

    20240820_094016.jpg

Since this piece is just a mock up, I didn't care to make it look pretty but you can help it by lightly sanding down any imperfections after the primer dries as sometimes a little build up can occur.

That or lint and dust that falls and dries with the paint.

Just throwing that out there for those wanting to make their exterior brackets look good but suck at painting like I do.

Just got my hardware. Same packing error received for the flange bolts. Good grief.

Check to see if they thread into the weld nuts, IIRC the previous post ended up being mislabeled.

    Edit - likely confirmed.

Sorry, heat/family/work delayed my efforts… here’s what I found (nope, not my digital calipers/micrometer)… I set the first bracket in and marked on the metal where the holes fell.

    IMG_2036.jpg

I checked the second bracket placement and hole alignment.

    IMG_2037.jpg

I then went and made a template of the backside of the area. I had my son mark the outline (yes, that’s his 4th grade attempt (he’s 22)) of the holes while I had the template in. I then moved the template to the light side and used my lamp to highlight the template, so I could match the holes.

    IMG_2039.jpg

I proceeded to mark where the centerline for the first bracket would fall on the template. I then took the second bracket and laid it on the template correctly aligning it and lighting where the holes would fall.

    IMG_2040.jpg

I then laid the first bracket over showing the misalignment.

    IMG_2041.jpg

What I can say after all of this is there is ZERO miscalculations on @Kwikvette ’s part. The measurements are spot on. What isn’t is the angle/orientation of bracket 1 and bracket 2. It should be fixable by just adding some meat to bracket 1 and elongating/orienting.

I’m going to send @Kwikvette my template post haste tomorrow, so he can look at it if it changes anything. The slots in the second bracket are used for wiring harness mounts, so they can be left off, or if included… just oversize to allow the mounts (one uses side clips, one uses top/bottom, so no consistency). They are perfunctory, just the main hole is important.

That's going to be super useful as I have a master set to compare with on hand.

I didn't do anywhere near as careful a job figuring this out as @NoOne did, but this was what my eye-crometer was saying as well. It is not a matter of the distances involved, rather the angles that they are rotated relative to each other that is (just barely) off.

    Actually, lemme rephrase that...

@NoOne did a better job than I did!

I’m jealous you guys are able to install these already. I’m hoping it’ll be within the next two weeks.

Man… I would. Stupid HOA of our rental doesn’t allow shit for us pheasants to do any vehicle maintenance. If I could park in the garage.. but I can’t. Rig doesn’t fit because of preexisting shelving I can’t take down.

Might take this thing to the auto hobby center on Camp Lejeune and see if I can’t install this thing once and for all. Just need to coat it and let it dry. That gives me time to put together my garage gym.

    edit: garage not garbage. :annoyed:
