Hold on a second, the radiator method is so you can do it without getting on the floor also without using a lift.

With a lift I just do it from underneath  :anonymous: :crapstorm:

PSA: Don't use ethanol gas for small engines...NEVER...especially those that are only used infrequently, like a chainsaw.

Somehow I went brain dead a couple of years ago and mixed up some premix with ethanol. Well, it sat in the chainsaw for well over a year. A few months ago, I went to the ex-MIL's house to trim up some bushes along her garage/back yard. The saw was running like crap, poor idle, stumbled and stalled when popping the trigger. Finally it quit and wouldn't restart. I figured it was just that the gas went bad.

Fast forward to today: I have something that needs cutting, so pull out the saw and try to get it started. I had mixed up some new gas. Dump the old gas and refill the tank. Squirt a bit into the carb (air filter was amazingly clean), and it will fire but not stay running. A quick look around the carb showed me the problem: the fuel line is broken right by the carb fitting. When I touch the fuel line, it just crumbles.

Off to the hardware store for a foot of fuel line.

I'll say this much: pushing that new fuel line into the tank was a bitch! That alone took about 90% of the repair time. Once the new line was in and everything was buttoned up, it fired right up and runs like new again.

When I found the fuel filter loose in the fuel tank, it occurred to me why the weed wacker (which had been run hard for 25+ years and was dying anyway) fuel filter dropped off in it's fuel tank about a month and a half ago. Replacing that fuel line would've been almost impossible and not worth the bother to just have it up and die soon anyway. When I saw the chainsaw fuel line I knew exactly what happened. No more alcohol!

And the corn used to make the ethanol should be used for taco shells and chips!

Yup I don’t run ethanol in anything that sits.

for mixed gas, lately I’ve just bought the premix 50:1. It’s usually 93 and has stabilizer in it too. I don’t go through enough of it to bother mixing.

That filter in the tank is more weight than filter, it;s weighted so no matter which way you turn the saw it will fall into the fuel; hope you shoved enough hose into the tank so it doesn't starve the saw.

I run only pure gas in all small engines. When I fill up the cans for the small engines the first 3 gallons go in the Tacoma.

Is this the one you bought? Looks nice. I hope they don't use the same 1/8" hose that mine came with. I took mine apart and drilled and tapped for 1/4". The pump doesn't get anywhere near as hot now.

The only small engine I own is in my Husqvarna chainsaw. When I bought it, I bought some of the Husqvarna premixed fuel, as well. It's a little expensive if you're going to use the saw a lot, but I use mine once or twice a year.

I've had the saw since 2017 or maybe 2018, and it hasn't failed to start, always runs fine. I think it's well worth the extra cost for high quality fuel. If I went through a lot, I'd definitely be buying ethanol free when possible. Fortunately, the closest gas station to me has ethanol free premium if I need it.

I have done 0 maintenance on the saw, so far. I think maybe I'll put a spark plug in it next year. :D

You've never even sharpened the chain?

Hasn't needed it yet. Like I said, I've used it once or twice a year . I've probably cut down two dozen small/medium trees with it and otherwise mostly just cut up dead falls to get them out of the way now and again. By the time it needs sharpening, I'll easily be able to rationalize a new chain.

Edit: come to think of it, maybe I will just pick up a new chain and spark plug sometime this fall.

Haha, good call! Although, I wouldn't feel bad spending a few bucks on it. It's been great to me, especially considering it's one of the cheaper Husky's.

I'm always in the market for hand-me-downs.
Trying to determine how popping the hood to hook that up outweighs my current setup of just plugging a pancake comp. into the outlet in the bed?

    Well, we don't want that.

The pancake isn't bad. Lacks the volume.
I'll fill a tire with what it will take. Let the compressor fill and move on to the next.
Then one last fill to go around and top them off.
Not bad just the pancake takes up a 'little' extra space.

I'm not so sure about that.

It will come down to the specific compressor, but I used a little 1/3 hp hot dog compressor like the one pictured below for the first few trips when I had my Tacoma, and it sucked. I would never go back from the Viair 300P.

I timed it leavingTigerton, and it took almost exactly 2 minutes apiece to fill 295/70/17's from 13 psi up to 35. Depending on the size you are planning on upgrading to next :)boink:), and the pressure you're going to run, it could be faster for you.
