When troubleshooting my intermittent starting issue I noticed a switch above my clutch that releases when you press the clutch. Note: this is not the button UNDER the clutch that gets pressed when you press the clutch. Is this related to the starting system?

That is the cruise cancel switch, it's not related to the starting system.

The one that gets depressed when the clutch is all the way down is the clutch safety switch for the starting system.

    Bravo, thank you!!

I put a test light on the terminals for the clutch safety switch (other end on battery ground) and I get no light. Am I correct in assuming my issue would be the ignition switch? I believe the clutch safety switch is the first in line behind the ignition switch.

Also, people have told me to check my grounds but I don't know where/how many to check. Any advice?

The clutch switch controls the ground side of the starter relay, ignition switch controls the power side of the starter relay.

My test would be test light from battery Positive to Pin 2 of the Starter Relay socket, depress the clutch and see if it lights up. If it lights up consistently when you depress the clutch then that circuit is good.

Test light from battery Negative to Pin 1 of the Starter Relay socket, turn the Ignition Switch to the Crank position and see if the light lights up. If it lights up consistently with the key in the Crank position than that circuit is good.

Are these backwards? I get no lights on either side. I do get lights if I go battery positive to Pin 1 when I press the clutch button. I don't get lights on either side when cranking.

Possible the pinout on the diagram is wrong, I don't have one to test.

In any case the clutch switch controls the ground to the relay so sounds like that's good and the issue is on the ignition switch side.
Need to go to the ignition switch an check Pin 1 (Black) for power with the key in the crank position.

I think I had it backwards. It's weird, the labels on the top of my starter relay swap the 1 and 2 from the diagram. So if I go from battery positive to Pin 2 on your diagram I do get a light when pressing the clutch button. Interestingly I get a flicker if I press the button all the way in versus about 3/4. Probably not a bad idea to swap both. I'll have to remove the lower dash to get to the ignition switch which will take some time. I'll report back.

    I REALLY APPRECIATE your help!
