Truck just hit 100K on original brakes. It is a manual, so I think that helped. Brakes were amazingly still quiet with no pulsation although completely worn out in front. Rears could have went probably another 50K, but changing them while it is apart. Also have a 0 mile set of yellow Bilsteins from a 2022 TRD off road that are going on. Had to cut the nuts off the rear upper mounts, but would say that the rear shocks still felt fine, haven't taken the fronts apart yet to feel them, but changing them all either way...

Also going to address some of the rust while under there with POR-15

Rear Drums were painted with POR-15 8 years ago when the truck was new and have held up amazingly well through 8 New England Winters

The spec minimum for front pads is 4mm. Looks like you're close.

What brand of rotors do you plan to install?

If you are interested in OEM, https://autoparts.toyotaofdecatur.com has a 25% off and free shipping deal going on for the next 6 days. Prices are pretty good for my 18. $66 per rotor and $47 for simple pad kit. I mean, you got 100K out of the last set, right?

I just put the geomet coated rotors on mine a month ago, I'm happy with them.

You just made it to 100k. I had mine changed at 70k. Just because. My luck mid winter they would fail. Good luck.

OP, was your truck not stopping like crap for the past 30K miles? I really don’t know how you were driving around on those worn out brakes. I also don't see anyway those brakes were quiet with no pulsation.

OP I think it was mentioned somewhere that POR-15 is not a sealant. May want to look into that.

I would say that it was definitely down a little on braking power, had to stop a few times recently on the highway and it seemed off, but 100% they were quiet and smooth.

Damn, almost too good to be true.
I don't need 'em yet, but ordered a pair of front rotors for the 4Runner. $102.19 Delivered for the pair.

Their parts checker fitment thingy isn't functioning, but I know the p/n to a certainty.

@ $51 bucks a rotor, shipped, I'm almost expecting the order to get cancelled.
Thanks for the heads up, we'll see...

I had to remove the calipers from the truck to pound out the stuck guide pins, one of them had to be cut...

    New vs old pad:
    upload_2024-8-26_8-17-38.png

Used this type of spring compressor, painted the shock bodies to keep the rust away:

Also changed the original accessory drive belt, old one still looked fine:

    hopefully good for another 100K...
