Anyone who’s done the JD SUA kit, is this the proper way to place the template?

I’m about to cut but don’t want to mess this up. haha.

not that it helps you since I see in LTBS that you cut already but this is what my installed-by-jdfab bypass mounts look like:

    I appreciate the response anyway.

all of the pics have the top plate on them. Hard to see how far back to cut.

did you cut the top of the bed at an angle? My poor crayon scribble but the shock mount won’t clear.

Nvm, I see you mentioned that JD did the install now.

I have that angle at the top. I wasn't too confident and having an expectation that it should've been all 90° and square because that's what made since to me..but I said fuck it, the templet from JD couldn't be wrong so I just went with it.

But I had to do some minor clearancing at Ian's shop when we were doing the actual Tower Installation to make the Towers fit through what I had previously cut

man, all you guys cutting so conservatively. I wish I had the template when I did mine. My cuts are pretty bad. But at least I have a place to sweep all the acorns and twigs out of my bed.....

Truth. I welded in my towers with the bed off, then had to fight the bed down and trimmed to make it go back on. The ol oscillating tool and death wheel got some use that day. I misjudged the amount of taper on the frame itself and just cut with the lines of the wheel wells... Driver's side I clearanced to try to get some slack for the filler neck and it just turned into a mess.

That's a bit of a bummer. It works and serves the purpose but I am trying to avoid too much cutting if I can.

I don't mind a little extra clearance but I don't want it to be excessive. I am going to try and finish the trimming up this weekend and will report back.

Sorry to quote you @Airdog again but i had a long run of either getting mangled misalignments, then ups lost a package. Finally got these the other day. I thought the pin stuck down pretty low but kept on installing. The pic trimtaco posted above is what I originally got. These look more like the uca replacements? Upper and lower are both 1” uniball so shouldn’t matter as long as misalignment works? But looks like if i had 16” wheels these might be kinda close. I guess im just curious of these are meant for the uppers 3E83CD26-0AFA-40A4-A8FA-95FCA4A8BD43.jpg 5C48D261-D7C2-4D05-92CC-EB98914F6976.jpg

Hmmm. Those definitely look like it’s for the upper. The new lower uniball I received used a bolt.
Here is what I received for the lower arm. upload_2024-8-23_8-3-0.jpg

That was also when the towers were welded in with subpar instructions if any And they wouldn’t guarantee the kit would fit great on an access cab
