sorry but no its not lol one hard bump and the truck will snap in half. if someone was stupid enough to pay that then i guess good on them? these trucks in that condition use to be 1k or less depending on how bad the frame was but them toyota owners be specials!

 

I do agree that some people see "toyota" and "tacoma" and lose all sense of normalcy... but no they aren't $1k trucks. A used frame is $500-1500 depending on what state you want it from and about 24-30 hrs depending on the configuration (4x4, 2wd, xtracab), etc.

During and after covid everything ripped upward, I look at and repair/total vehicles daily and tacoma's are still worth a nice chunk of change even with a shit paint/body/frame.

If you can find others for $1k please let me know, I would gladly snatch them up. I have a buddy that wants to swap frames and keep one at the sand dunes for a cheap 4x4 when he is down there.

 

we can agree to disagree. a truck like that before covid would sit on marketplace for months with no interest because of its frame and would be around 1k maybe 1500 use to see it all the time now people think oh boy! i got this old toyota and some idiot will pay money for it! shoot i just saw a 03 trd crew cab tacoma on markplace and someone wanted 30k for it... didnt even list the miles!

i love my truck but god damn toyota fanboys are just special tbh...

also sadly nothing exist for that cheap anymore! hell cant even find a 90s civic for that cheap unless its been gutted!

 

you are definitely preaching to the choir. I used to buy and sell 90s civics for $500-800 (this was mid 2000s time frame) and could easily tune them up, clean them up, and sell them for about $2-2500. Now the same vehicle almost 20 years older is being sold for more...

 

yuup i remember friends buying them for 1k and being an si but a bit rough and building them up to go race for a weekend and if they blew up well they would junk it and find another... now days you cant even find a damn vtec b series for under 2k! completely stupid! when i got my b18b1 i did pay a bit more then what id personally like but i got legit a truck bed load of stuff with it so it wasnt to bad a deal and sold some stuff off and made most of my money back from it tbh.

really gotta get that car going again i miss driving it lol

honestly... its stupid now if you are wanting a car that first you look at new! to just try and find a good deal since so many want basically new prices on used shit!!

My last 5 vehicles have been new. Don’t want someone else’s problems and doesn’t make sense to save a few penny’s. Plus you’ll usually get better financing rates on new that’ll mostly offset anything you’d have saved

ATM Toyota doesn't look good Id rather not have another Ford tbh... Even thou they have now fixed the issue!!! Maybe Nissan? But idk ATM nothing new is really grabbing my attention or I would get new again

The axles and drivetrain are easily worth 3K. Especially if they're in good running condition. And if the body and interior are also in good running condition then yeah that truck's worth more than 3K in Parts alone. The guy who bought it might have a good frame to put it on. Who knows. Maybe he's got three trucks that need parts. Who knows

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy... Why doesn't Toyota look good right now? Is it because the media told you to be scared of a couple of problems that they are dealing with out of pocket? Is it because people freak out when Toyota decides to take care of their customers? Unlike all of their competitors who literally leave their customers on the side of the road and tell them they should have bought a newer truck? Is it because you don't like hybrids and turbos even though literally every manufacturer is going that route? Thanks to the EPA?

 

Our 4th vehicle is a wrecked 350z that's now @gasparic104's drift car build.
The truck is our 2nd vehicle, behind the 03 corolla we got for $900.

 

meh even then years ago that would have been a cheap af truck but since the market went stupid people now get money for junk and you cant deny it...

idk why wouldnt they look good? tundras are not lasting well the tacomas are not doing well either (hopefully they will get it worked out sooner rather then later)... the grc is catching on fire for some reason? and atm unless things have changed toyota is still denying the warranty on the vehicle since it went over 85mph..... idk how you are seeing them take care of the customers at all since atm people are having to fight to get warranty work done... my buddy who had his tundra blow up at 20k miles had to fight toyota for months until they finally said welllll alright we will replace the motor! the dealer that did the work felt bad enough to offer him a price while the truck was waiting months for an engine to buy the truck off him since he needed a vehicle and toyota refused to give him a loaner now he could have a rental but no loaner... not saying this is every single case but that was his.

also if you are thinking i watch media then you are very very mistaken lmao i dont watch anything unless its youtube (which anymore is just for funny stuff or bikes no car stuff or reviews tbh its boring to me) or anime and sooome Instagram reels but even then im looking for funny memes about it. so no media scare here lol

toyota has normally helped people out but with a few of these newer vehicles it seems some people are having issues with toyota actually giving a shit (again this is more experience from people i know or people ive followed on instagram when they had an issue or when you see an issue on here).

how could i be the one you are saying i dislike turbos? ive owned two newer vehicles that were turbo lmao, now hybrids ive never been a huuuge fan of them but i prefer them over a electric vehicles. i do think its the proper route to go to have best of both worlds kinda thing.... would be neat to see if hydrogen power gets more popular buuut idk about that one! i know kawasaki and i think toyota? has dabbled into it before and are messing with it again? or it was honda i dont remember tbh...

 

There are guys out there who replace the frames, clean them up, and then flip them for more money. It's kinda wild to think about.

that is true ive seen a few friends do that but at most they spend like 2k lol now this was years ago when you would spend that and then sell it for 5k for a decent profit but now days oh boy clean tacoma! i want 15k! its nuts! hopefully the market goes back down to being cheaper again for old junk lol

 

Not to sound like I'm defending Yakob here, but the GRC has been spontaneously combusting and unless they finally decided to man up on it, they are denying warranties. Which is pretty wild considering its a new car and you'd think they'd want to keep their image clean.

Uh, have you looked at the cost of new parts or the cost of clapped out POS's for sale? That's pretty normal price these days. People want an assload of money for a smashed up car that doesn't run.

Probably never tbh. If anything, I'm really tempted to gut it, cut out a trans tunnel and somehow cram an LSX into it with a quiet exhaust. What a sketchy sleeper that would be. But I don't have a shop or the money to be doing all that.
