The stranded part, and pulling out on the highway, and then the truck doesn’t accelerate was not welcomed. I cld get into Toyota care towing was also BS. 5:24 PM - 2:00 am. I had limped it home, thankfully. I received a text stating in 90 minutes, then another text completed, I feel asleep , and woke up at approx 2:00 am, I called at 2 am, asked about the text stating completed they stated they canceled my tow, couldn’t find anyone. They suggested I cld pay out of pocket and get reimbursed. Next day the dealership had me call their locale tow guy.
    Being in limbo is strange.

First year buyers being used beta testers is an absurd idea and Toyota themselves would tell you that. I didn’t appreciate the early issues on my ‘16, but software flashes on an otherwise reliable transmission is different from failed transmissions leaving people SOL.

I’m a kool-aid guzzling fan of all things Toyota, but if anyone here was my friend or neighbor considering buying one of these, I’d strongly recommend to just wait a while. Toyota hasn’t earned your business yet, not at these prices.

☝️ I agree!!! This truck was sitting on the lot when I drove through, no window sticker, I called and asked and they told me/us it was available. I was similar to a moth going to light, Turned around and drove back. Allegedly, the financing had fell through for the previous person. Second guessing this now. . I didn’t do research This is my sixth Toyota. Here I sit!!! Do I see if they buy it back, then what do I get? Do I ask for the moon?

Can’t blame you for buying, they’re really nice trucks, and nobody was predicting these kind of first-year shenanigans.

They need to make you 100% whole. You decide what that looks like.

Toyota knows how many VINs are affected, and where they are. The root cause is “casting debris and residue”.

Toyota Tacoma Chief Engineer Sheldon Brown discloses that at the 46 minute mark in the video at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UYItHo7w93k

This IS a safety concern and should require a recall on the VINs that were affected. Toyota needs to bite the bullet and get proactive BEFORE someone gets hurt.

I'm sure in Toyota's eyes the last thing they want to do is issue another massive recall after what happened with the Tundra.

I can’t say I blame them. With any luck, the number of trucks affected isn’t massive. Only Toyota knows.

If people with transmission failures would make sure they do a NHTSA complaint describing the safety issue of a transmission failing at that wrong time, they won't have a choice.

I feel like a transmission issue falls into the grey area of being a safety issue.

Gm had a run of 3-4 years where their 6.2 v8s were having lifter issues left and right. Guys in brand new tahoes and silverados were having lifter failures right after purchase. It was never deemed a recall even though people were being left on the side of the road with a dead engine.

Dealership, never completed the task. Another disappointment. I did call Toyota today and they put in a call back in 3-5 days. I get life could be worse, so I am trying to justify it in my brain. Ha

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Dang. One would think that Toyota would still be able to produce decent transmissions after building them for 87 years. Did they forget how? Loved the 5 speed auto in my old 06. No complaints at all and I ran it to 180k. Never had to even think about it a single time. No flushes, no drain & fills. Maybe when they drop a 15 speed it will get better.

@fostuhh has the dealership actually sent your transmission for a formal breakdown diagnostic to anyone yet?
your patience is an admirable quality!

What “task “are we talking about? You just said you had a meeting scheduled for the weekend with the dealership… Least I thought you did.

My younger brother is purchasing a Colorado ZR1 today in Laconia, NH and he lives in CT. He started his search dead-set on the Tacoma, because he likes mine. However, out of all his test drives, research, price, you name it for the last two weeks, he claims best bang for the buck is the ZR1. I am looking forward to seeing it afterwork before he heads home, which is a few hours away.

I whole heartedly agree, they wld have something decent. This is my sixth toyota, they always have been amazing. I gambled and semi-lost. I am just disappointed. I am intrigued how other new replacements are going. How long it took, is it better. Once I get this transmission, what about longevity on that transmission. And anything else it might’ve ruined! Thank you for your responses. Keep all comments/ knowledge/ responses/ ideas coming.
We called before arrival to confirm the meeting was set up with dealership managers (sales/service/owner,,,) and nothing was organized. Meaning the task of them setting up the meeting didn't happen.
Received also received a text from
    Dealership:::

Hi xxxx, just wanted to update you too. I texted xxx (husband). I talked with my manager. We don’t have too many options. Trading in the vehicle which I know you love it and with trade in value it wouldn’t be ideal. The other is waiting for the fix. I know the Tucson doesn’t fit your lifestyle, maybe service could get you into a truck but you’d have to contact them as they know what’s available and how insurance covers etc. I know xxx (husband) was told Hyundai had this issue and it took months which of course Toyota is different and hopefully is much faster.

I also meant to send this to you yesterday, but I guess I clicked the wrong number and sent it to a random person who let me know this morning, they’re indeed not you
