Anything welding

I posted on here a few weeks ago about forming a 1" 16 gauge tube to a specific rectangular size. I found a method that worked. I was really pushing the limits of my vice. I'm not sure my vice or my arms would hold up if i had do crank a bunch of these out but for a 1-off, it was great. Note that in the second picture the long edge is bowed in, I grabbed it with some pliers and it pulled right out.

 

I just realized your "old" compressor technically spec'd higher than the new one at least for SCFM.

Finally part of the plasma club. No projects need it yet but I will likely use it for a ton of shit.

Will def help if I ever want to put an FJZ80 rear axle on the tacoma eventually.

 

Yeah but those old Craftsman air compressors, or really most any big box type, were all hyped up anyway with unrealistic values. Also, a part of me thinks that would've been if I had rewired it to 220? Most pumps allow you to wire for either.

Even if you're using it with a hand torch, you'll find it stupid convenient to use.

Chopping off rusted parts from an old trailer to repair/replace, cutting down large sheets to specific sizes and shapes, breaking down scrap, and more.

Plus you'll have the option to add a CNC table down the road.

 

Coming back to this guy; he posts asking for advice again of course.

He kind of blew off one guy that I often see post (he knows his stuff).

I approach differently to offer said solution, but one that requires work in dialing in on their own.

The result? He basically knows better than everyone giving him advice and wants a cut and dry answer to his dilemma

Dude is still really green and his responses are so condescending. What a moron.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's in the forum actually since he has a 1st Gen and he's in the Tacoma FB group for them.

 

1. Let the poor kid charge what he wants. Maybe he’ll get lucky but it’s likely he’ll learn he’s charging too much.

2. likewise, when ungracious people ask for advice the well often, eventually runs dry. If he possesses an ounce of self awareness he might ponder why folks start to avoid him.

The knowledge part just screws him over. A few of us put him on ignore so he'll miss any helpful info we provide anyone else.

He's far from a kid though, he's very condescending and thinks he knows more than the people trying to help.

 

unfortunately, that's the qualifications to become a business owner anymore.

i like to believe in karma in situations like this. in a lot of ways, i must, because otherwise i'll make an effort to accelerate their demise, which tends to lead to me getting caught up in their self-induced death spiral.

It's why some of us just put him on the ignore list. As for the pricing? Yeah I was just voicing my opinion here.

Guess maybe I just have too much faith in people.

There are a handful of regulars, me being one of them, and we get tagged to either offer help to someone in need or simply tagged as a "yeah, what they said" sort of thing.

Takes time learning something, in this case CNC. Whether it's the software side of things, converting stuff, fixing a drawing, suggesting a CAM setting.

Then the metal itself, whether it's reading the cut(s) and being able to describe the issue without actually seeing the machine run. You can tell if the lead in/out is off, if the machine is out of square, if something is cutting too fast or too slow, or if the cut height is incorrect or more.

It all takes time to learn, specifically a lot of trial and error on your part and you try to use it to help others to fast track them to where they want to be.

You get that one person that asks for help, displays his parameters and cut out, and states the dilemma. Many of us offered exactly what it takes to get there (without being able to give a solid answer as it requires him to dial it in) and it turns around to him telling us how the machine works, how it is cutting thick steel, etc as if none of us knew what we were talking about. It was 1/4" mild steel

My son and I were walking around in TSC yesterday and saw these. They would come in handy in certain situations, thought I'd share.

 

You'll love the combiclick setup; it's what we used at work and it would allow you to feather into those corners easliy

 

I'll have to pick one up soon, we were killing time and wondered up and down almost every aisle.

 

I picked up a cheap Lincoln IdealARC 250 being surplused by a university. No cables, no clue if it even works, so I guess I'm starting from scratch and on hard mode learning stick. Can't wait to lay down some of the worst welds seen by man.

My first MIG looked a lot like that. I'm hoping the ARC looks that good. As it is I'm just reading up on the basics of AC, DC+, and DC-. Anybody know a good "stick welding for dummies" resource?

 

Learned everything I know from the Chinese guy on tiktok that just squints when he welds.

 

I remember asking my dad if he would teach me how to weld with his Lincoln tombstone stick welder and a 6013 rod.

He said yes, as I was getting ready to strike an arc I ask him how close to hold it.

He said as close as you can without it sticking and it was game on.

I was 10 years old, that was 1985 and I remember it like it was yesterday.

 

if you've got some mig experience, i firmly believe the best resource is going to be some metal scrap, and a tube full of rod.

 

That'll be the plan I think. Just trying positions, joints, thicknesses and heats until I'm comfy enough to weld my truck in anger.
