I’ve been in and out of this site for the past 9 years and usually only poke my head in when I need an awesome DIY write up or I’m trying to justify a mod.

when I checked back in recently, I was surprised how much lower the traffic on the 2nd gen forum was which made me realize that most have moved on to 3rd gens, etc.

for those of us remaining and as the og 1gr-fe continues to age, wondering where the rest of yall are at with mileage and any significant mechanic issues you’ve had.

    for me:

    2013 DCSB, trdor
    Current mileage: 126k
    Bought at 21k in 2015

    Repairs/ issues:
    (1) One u-joint bearing shat out and drove on it for a dangerous amount of time (easily diagnosed and repaired once I got to it) - was probably one highway drive away from seeing how well my truck polevaults

    (2) have a valve cover gasket that needs to be replaced - I’m still monitoring it (ignoring it). Have slight oil in the rear passenger spark well - no issue with the spark when I pull it.

    (3) replaced suspension (2 inch 6112/5100/ Dakar med/ ome uca/ diff drop/ lower control arms at 125k miles

    (4) not a single other issue

Did a bunch of other reasonable mods: seat covers, new head unit, speakers, sliders, morimoto headlights/ fogs to update the feel of the truck. And all importantly, the TRD pro grille (cheap Chinese edition)

    2013 DCSB 4x4
    Purchased at 28K in 2015 certified pre-owned
    Currently 175K miles
I replaced the alternator at 125K, the drive line at 100K, the battery at around 150K, upraded the suspension but my OEM was fine. The air conditioning system went out at right under 30K miles and Toyota ate the $5K bill to install a complete and brand new system. I've replaced the blower motor resistor twice.
I've done too many mods to even think about! I feel an itch for a Nissan Titan but this truck has been paid off forever.

    minor tweaks
06 DCSB TRD OR, 150K, only work has been proactive; WP, pulleys, fan clutch, fr wheel brgs, hoses, belts u-joints, etc... typical 150K maintenance stuff. Suspension eventually sacked out so it got springs/shocks all around and some interior upgrades to modernize it.

2014 Tacoma T/X Baja, bought at 63k miles, now sitting around 110k.

Not a single issue I didn't create on my own lol. whole bunch of body, suspension, and interior mods built out for camping and offroading.

gonna need new front brakes soon along with a new windshield at some point.

Bought mine in '14 new and it's been strong for 10 years. Nothing but routine maintenance following the manual. I've added a good bit to it but no other problems otherwise.

2006 DCSB TRD Sport, bought new. Just turned 96k. Normal maintenance, did 90k service at 90k (6 months ago). Before Colorado trip replaced a leaking water pump (precaution as it was just seeping), all u-joints and carrier bearing (they were getting pretty bad). All peace of mind, but she ran smooth as silk on our trip. These trucks are solid.

We've got two: 2006 DCSB my wife bought at 90k and it now has 230k on it. Tires, oil, belts, one set of front pads and rotors, a set of front wheel bearings, fluids, a preventative water pump and a set of u-joints/carrier bearing from a checkered first two owners left us with a reliable truck the last 12 years. Our nephew is driving the wheels off of it on the oil field this summer as an intern welding inspector. If it makes it through that ordeal, he wants to buy it.

    20240301_095258.jpg

The 2014 sits garaged and diaper polished until camping trips and road trips. It has 70k on it and although I'm in my 40's, hope I live another 40 years and that it will be my last truck.

Purchased used at 32k miles in 2017

Just passed 97 or 98k in the last few weeks
Only failed parts are the bezel for the master window switch. Both door seals were swapped for the updated tsb ones.

Only mod is a csf t4r radiator.

It does need a new steering wheel though.20230414_194130.jpg

'09 Access Cab TRDor - currently at 132K miles. [ETA] Bought new in '09 with 145 miles on it.

Every year since 2015 I make a 1600 mile drive from MA to FL in the fall, and FL to MA in the spring. This truck has to run 100%.

The only failure was the AC compressor at ~100K miles.

Toyota provided me with a new frame in the spring of 2018. The mfr. holes in the new frame were sealed with FlexTape, and the frame has since been treated with WoolWax. I also dropped the towing package and rear bumper and treated the rust with RustOleum Rust Reformer, and a coat of RustOleum black paint. These areas have also been treated with WoolWax to keep the rust away.

I have replaced the front wheel bearings, shocks (now Bilstein 5100s), tires, battery, front brake rotors & pads, tensioner pulley bearings, the intermediate steering shaft, one tie rod, the headlights, and the alternator pulley all as preventative maintenance.

I replaced the secondary air injection pump check valve after the truck went into limp mode. It was probaly due to age or not doing the uni filter upgrade on the air injector pump.

On my fourth battery and 3rd set of tires. Just upgraded to a set of 3rd gen OR shocks & uppers (2K on them).

Truck was struck by lighting at 100K, took out ecm, abs, senors and right rear rim (6K worth, insurance paid all but $500 deductable)

Next project new pulleys and belt and larger trans cooler.

2015 DCOR. Bought in 2017 with 29k, now 85k. Only issue has been the 2 front body mount bolts. They were squeaking. Replaced with Amazon parts for about 30 bucks. Like new. Just installed some 5100s. Probably didn’t really need them, just wanted to.

2013 purchased in 2023 with 110K on the clock. Previous owner super anal, even made appointment at dealer for just the cabin air filter. NM truck so no rust issues. I drive 6K per year, and it feels like a new truck every day.
