We had one near the office last year. Guy installed a water heater, had a gas leak. He called a plumber, they were staring at it when it blew. Killed 3 people and they ended up demolishing the whole house because the roof basically lifted off and fell back down. Explosive pressure is no joke.

I thought this was more recent, but the run of gas leaks and explosions in MA a few years ago was especially terrifying. The local utility accidentally over-pressurized the residential gas lines and houses were bursting into flames all over the region. It's amazing that only one person died in all that.

Was also talking to this guy who doe’s refrigeration works at at a dairy processing plant and he said one time the plant was draining the milk silo and the vent on the top didn’t open so the vacuum pressure from it getting drained imploded the silo.

Shits terrifying. Realized we only have co2 and smoke detectors in the house so ordered some new ones that can detect a gas leak as well.

We got this one for carbon monoxide in Theo's room and an overheard one our bedroom along with smoke and co2

Gives me a little extra reassurance being that it uses a 9V battery backup

Coming soon all modern HVAC equipment will start using natural gas variance of refrigerant. And Homes will start requiring refrigerant detectors because the refrigerant is flammable

But those won’t read a natural gas leak will they? Everything I’m reading said that CO alarms won’t detect natural gas

    Noooo

Our overhead one does, not the one I bought no

Figured the master bedroom being a lot closer we'd get the gas first

Nice! One more thing checked off the list and more reason to load it up and go on a little trip.

Also HC detectors should be up high same with CO should be high because they are lighter then air.

so either celling mount or about the same level as light switches

I balanced one up on a wall moulding rail about chest high. I'd wondered if it should be higher.
