Gas tank is higher than the carb and gas was flowing out when we removed the gas line to check the gas so that’s not a good idea since there is no fuel shutoff valve.

True. I'm betting you are going to be putting a new carb in it anyways. Much less hassle and much easier than trying to clean the old carb.

New carb will have a new fuel shutoff solenoid, too.

If you get the right carb kit, it will come with a manual fuel shut off as well.

You got a steal on that unit, might as well give it some love.

The tools come in "kits" appropriate for the size.

I have the set for my tractor engine, I don't recall the size. The parts are in a box out in the shop ...somewhere. ;-)
Some techniques are much like threading with a forming tap. Just a slow spiral that pushes up metal that can then be resized

Interesting. Will research this in depth.

Just about anyone can replace stuff. It's good to have the ability to FIX things.

Keeping the old methods alive is important also.

It;s hard anymore with Chi-com stuff so inexpensive. I guess that could be one benefit of the "work or don't eat" economic system.

Oh, good call! It hurts my soul replacing the factory Honda carb that only has 26 hours on it though :frusty: of course I only have 2 1/2 hours to decide on the direction I want to go on Amazon to get the part by Sunday. Probably going to take some time to think about the direction I want to go. Doubtful I can get the parts early enough on Sunday to do anything this weekend.

A stiff mix of 409 multi use cleaner in HOT water cleans up alu/pot metal very nicely. (25% 409 or there about)

Don't leave parts in too long or they will smutt and darken.

I would order a aftermarket carb to get it home and hold on to the Honda carb to rebuild it, if its really bad you may be able to bring it to a motorcycle shop and pay them to clean it using a sonic cleaner, I used to work at a scooter shop and we would disassemble horrible looking carbs and toss them in the sonic cleaner for 10-15 minutes and they would look brand new.

Boil it in lemon juice, the acids in the juice eats the tarnish off of it.

Well those two broken bolts must have cost me $30 in oxy/acetylene. Had to heat 'em again and again, then weld a nut on for purchase. One was a fine thread, just happened to have a replacement in the bolt tray. It needed to be cross drilled through the head for safe-tye wire. The side wing had to come off for better clearance during assembly. I'm tired from scrambling around so much. Up and down, etc. Better than new now!

    Trying a new experiment.

These decks for the 20 year old Toro zero turns rot out way sooner than they should.

Gonna try grafting the deck support hardware to a newer Toro Grand Stand deck.

I honestly don't know if it will work, but I'm gonna try anyways. Cuz the original decks are no longer available.

    This is the doner deck.

I grafted the mounting hardware from an Exmark Triton deck. Both are 60" decks.

Everything seems to be in the correct location.

Still need to mount the " mule drive" correctly. Some of the bigger decks used a mule drive to run the deck. These used 2 belts. 1 belt from the engine pto turns the mule drive. The second belt from the mule drive turns the spindles.

I actually like this system the best. They always seem to be a smoother start of the deck. I'm annoyed that the manufacturer recommends the engine be at maximum rpms to engage the deck.

The 2 belt systems are much smoother starters.20240824_134422.jpg

    Lol.

I was wondering if that was gonna be noticed.

It's not the size, it's how you use it!

Believe me, you gonna find dozens of uses for that rig of yours!

    Keep us posted.

Got the stump grinder out and went to town. There were a lot of little stumps that the push mower was hanging up on so I ground those down first. Then I attempted to go after this big poplar stump. After 10 minutes I gave up and now the plan is to burn it. Good news is I should be able to mow most of my yard with the riding mower now.

Cant wait to get the dingo so I can go to town on leveling some land. Slowly but surely!

Ordered the replacement carb I showed earlier which should be here sometime tomorrow. I also ordered a knockoff fuel shutoff solenoid for $12 which should be here between 4am-6am tomorrow. Planning on swapping out the solenoid to at least get it started and then swapping out the carb when I get it to my place.
