    1. Longer consumable life

    2. Better cut quality (I mean, Hypertherm is the best)

    3. It was brand new, never used and it came with consumables so it would've been stupid not to do it

I was about a week away from ordering one new. Would've been about $2700+ with taxes and shipping.

    @0xDEADBEEF

Really, those aren't the top reasons why.

The most important is the fact that STV tables are centered around Hypertherm machines.

They utilize ohmic sensing for their torch height control, and allow input data from the user for maintaining torch height via specified voltages all provided in Hypertherm manuals.

No other plasma cutting company provides voltage values for torch height cutting, and STV's system works specifically for it.

Think of it as fulfilling the prerequisite for buying an STV table in the future which I plan to do.

My own curiosity begs to ask, what components were you looking to buy for your project?

Just asking cause you mentioned going in debt for something.

Personally, I'd use cash to buy whatever was needed in case the project fails.

Solar panels, charging control, panel mounts, battery's, pump and a box to house it all in.
PayPal has their 6 month no interest I considered, make some monthly payments and then cover whatever's left with my bonus.

    like 1800-2000 bucks

    Dang

This was the $10k setup you're trying to replicate yourself right?

How much would you say you would have invested for one of these complete setups?

I'm rooting for you here, but also curious how far you've thought out your business plan.

It seems like, apart from a bit of a learning curve with the tech involved, it's been pretty straightforward for you to put together your design at 1/10 the cost of the established options. Of course you're only talking cost and aren't factoring labor and profit margin, but let's say you go to market at 1/4 to 1/2 the price of current options.

Why hasn't anyone else done the same yet? Why aren't the current players in the market selling cheaper options? If the customers aren't upset by the current prices, will they actually care about a cheaper option?
