Going to look at a 2013 Tacoma 4D 5ft rear (that's how it's listed). It has 138,490 miles and they are asking $22,449.. thoughts on this price, year body, etc. This is my first tacoma, I have a Jeep Wrangler now and possibly looking to trade it in.
I'm going to test drive this 2013 yota tomorrow and it is listed for $22,449, it has 138,458 miles on it, 4L & V6. I've looked up the Vin # and didn't find any real info about this truck. Is this worth the price, any known issues from anyone on here? This is my first Toyota, I've been driving a Jeep Wrangler for the last 10 years and have done a lot of work on her. I'm just ready to get something I don't have to continuously work on. I'll attach the link to the truck below...thanks in advance.

Thats about right for year, and mileage. Look for frame rought! That will tell if price is worth it. Check coolant make sure its pink, check rear main seal, valve covers and vvt timing covers for leaks. Make sure 4x4 works, toyotas electrical system is finicky.

You should have a good shop inspect for frame rust. So many people end up on here with a truck they just bought only to find out that it has frame damage. Don’t be one of those people. Get a pro to look at it.

I haven't kept up with what they sell for anymore. Plus there is a huge difference in value in different regions of the country. I paid $28K new in 2007 for mine so $22K for one that is soon 12 years old is hard to wrap my head around, but I guess that is the new normal. But those are pretty bulletproof trucks.

I'll hit 250,000 next week with basically the same truck. Mine is a TRD Offroad. Mechanically the only difference is that mine has a rear locker. Other than normal stuff like brakes, tires, battery etc. I've done very little to mine. It needed a new alternator and one U-Joint at about 170,000 miles. I replaced the headlight housings about 3 years ago, they were faded and I needed to replace the latch on the console recently. That's it.

Frame rust is going to be your main concern - that's a pretty good year otherwise.

I'm with @Marshall R - price seems high, but maybe that's just what they cost now.

I just bought a 2015 with 176000 mile on it. I paid 18500 for it. 19250 out the door with tax title and license. It's a trd off road double cab short bed non jbl.

I looked and looked and looked and I found 3 tacos that were I felt a good deal.

The first was a 2014 trd off road in dcsb for 24500. It had 3rd gen rims, a bed topper and only 84000 miles on it. I flew up there and the thing didn't work when I got there. It was stained on the seata with ink. To me it was indicative of the previous owner not taken as good of car of a vehicle like they ought to. So i declined on that one even though on paper it was the best buy. The salesman was a legit dude and he put me up in a rental car to drove home.

To which I drove to the next location and test drove a 2013 t/x baja with 120000 miles on it. They wanted 22500. It also had the bead lock rims. It was fine. But I just got the heebie jeebies about it while I was there. Can't explain it but other than it just felt wrong.

The third was the one I went with. I drove in the rental to the third location test drove it and bought it on the spot. It just felt right and it's in dang good shape for 176k. I might even take it it to a toyota restore place im using for my 1986 HJ60(diesil) Land Cruiser resurrection that im in the middle of just to rejuvenate my new to me taco at some point.

Look at the mods they have done, could give you a clue on how they treated the truck. The fog lights are aftermarket replacements, how were those wired in? Did they use adapters to the harness or just cut and splice? If they cut & spliced how does it look? To install the rear bumper they had to trim the fenders, what's the trimmed edge look like? Looks like there is a lift, is it blocks or did they change the springs?

I see they want $500 for the LoJack, is that the going rate? Are LoJacks still worth it?

Good luck, and make sure you hear the tacoma tick, and see that tacoma lean, LOL! I paid $21,000 out the door 2 years ago on a 2011 ttd sport lbdc, with 200,000 miles was 1 owner all dealer maintained and records kept. Am at 223000, nothing major thats not offroad related. Blew out driveshaft, which cracked charcoal canister, and changed 4x4 actuator about 6 times do to high water crossings and mud.

Judging by the front skid plate check underneth for any damage.

Yup that sharp crease is concerning. What could have caused that???

My .02 = The mods on that truck combined with the condition of some things says, to me, that the past owner had their priorities out of order.

    • Cloudy headlights but had a light bar installed?
    • Aftermarket fog lights? Why? The OEM ones are more than adequate for fog, unless the lift on the truck made the normal headlights aimed too high so the owner had to run fogs also to illuminate properly at night?
    • Seemingly random camo inserts on the front door arm rests, but the center console lid is bulged/damaged from leaning on it too heavily.

You can do better. Another one will show up. Look for a non modded truck.

    What he said.

Come up towards Seattle, I think you will find better choices. And, a true Pac NW vehicle often has minimal rust.

Thank you all for your input and advice! I walked on this one, they wouldn't come off the price at all saying they were a "haggle free" dealership. Good luck to whoever buys that thing im sure there will be a dummy out there who doesn't do research and buys it lol. I'm definitely going to look outside of Bend, OR and see if I can find some better options!

Thanks everyone!! This was extremely helpful!

Next truck you look at , get the vin # while you there. It’s helpful to see possible repairs , service ect.

Jeez that’s nuts given I paid like 24k for my 2011 with 10k miles on it.

22K maybe for a super-clean, STOCK unmodded Taco w/ all service records and 120K miles on it.

    For that modded-out blacked-out thing, 15-16K max.

And what's going on with that fine mesh bug-screen front grill replacement? Looks like it seriously impedes air flow to the radiator. That's bad.
