Any woodworkers?

Put together a picture frame for the TV yesterday.

 

That's very cool and creative.

 

It's miserable hot and humid hear in the Detroit area.
Went to church, grocery shopping and now I'm done,not going outside. I wanted to burn some more stuff but it's gonna have to wait. I've been feeling a little under the weather the last couple of weeks so I'm just gonna take it easy the rest of the day.
Ive had a respiratory thing, it's not covid.

 

What is the project?

 

Cant you see it? It's a pile of sawdust so he can play with his tonka trucks in it, lol.

 

Mine is a 65” TV my Daughters TV is a 55”

 

I recently refinished an axe handle, and I used Raw Linseed Oil mixed with odorless mineral spirits and got very good results. Good penetration and quick drying.

I've never mixed BLO with mineral spirits.

It's funny - BLO has a drying agent mixed in it, but to me, the raw oil dried quicker. I must be missing something...

 

Here I go again.

More Alder for a coffee and end table. The living room should be done after these two pieces. They were out of 4/4, so it was a little more $$ than it could have been.

I haven't done anything in the shop for awhile. I came down with covid Sunday night, took me down man. 2nd time for me, much shorter than the first time but still felt like crap for a few days. Felt a little better today so I actually went down to the shop for a few hours.
I finished sanding all this stuff and got a coat of blo on them. I thinned the blo 50/50 with odorless mineral spirits this time to see if it soaks in and dries any better.

I don't know what the species of the red crosses is because it was just in my lumber rack unmarked. It could be bloodwood or paduk, it was orange when cutting and sanding. Really pretty though, I might have to keep one of them for myself, lol.

Now I can start cutting some of the domestic stock I have prepared. Maple, box elder, I think some walnut, and a little Mesquite again for the large crosses.
If I'm going to be quarantined the shop is a good place to be.

 

Cocobolo?

 

I don't think so, I've got some of that and the grain is very different. When they dry I'll try and get a pic of one laying flat.

 

I’m getting these streaks or lines when I send my cutting boards through my drum sander. The sandpaper is clean, 120 grit. Can’t figure it out.

 

Its prob the grit. End grain can do that. Id use finer grit than 120. 320 is prob better But they can be taken out with orbital sander

 

My jet does the same thing. But they sand right out with an orbital.

 

Yeah, I don’t consider mime as a finish sander at all. That what Festool is for, lol

 

My latest CNC project. My 6 year old grand niece drew this picture for my birthday last year. So for her birthday I figured I'd replicate it in epoxy for her birthday. Mounted it in a bamboo plywood frame and poured a flood coat of epoxy over it.

More like arts & crafts than woodworking but the finished product is quite unique.

 

2 days and scrapwood problem is fixed, lol. Winds where very light today so it was a good day to finish the burn. Plus I'm still self quarantined from covid, feeling better, I'll take another test today to see if I can be around people yet.
There was construction debris from the garage window and workbench. And lots of hardwood scraps from the wood shop. And a couple of pallets remains.



I hauled 4 of those totes of hardwood scraps out of the shop.

Very relaxing.
