Talk to me about this wax. Why not just put ceramic on it? I know you made a deliberate decision because you didn't just buy some random turtle wax. That Collinite is a top shelf wax.

The winters here are brutal. $75+ for quality ceramic coating that fails in 8-10 months and only get 1 use out of vs quality carnuba based wax for $35 that fails in 4-5 months that I can get 25-30 uses! In addition after every winter the ceramic coated paint still needs a good cleaning/claybar and light buffing. I’m doing the work either way so I’m saving the coin and getting the “fresh wax look” more frequently.

What kind of upkeep do you do for this wax in between applications? I've tried a number of lower end ceramics, and I agree, they have a certain flaccid glow that doesn't approach the vibrance of a nice wax.

My 2023 tundra that’s similar to these Tacomas in that in front of the rear wheels gets pelted to shit off road and in the winter, has been good with running boards and rokblokz even with my 295/70/18 at3w’s.

We are the same. I say I am a hobbyist detailer and like to detail my own cars/trucks. Twice a year I do what I call a FULL detail. Right before winter and right after winter. In between the wax about every few car washes I also use Carpro Reload. It brings back that deep shine you get right after doing the wax. I find also when keeping that applied between the waxing it makes washing bugs and gunk off super easy. IMO ceramic coating is snake oil and the industry created it to make a crap ton of money. Unless you do your own detailing, use all the right products and wash your own car ALWAYS after paying the huge $$ for ceramic the coating is gone after 6 months. They will advertise a X year guarantee but the second you don’t have the shop that does your ceramic also do every single wash for you, it will never be guaranteed and it just doesn’t last. I have several friends in the business, THEY LOVE doing ceramic coating. Their margins are triple that of any other service. Do as you wish, it is your money but that is my opinion.

A little pic of the setup

I’ve got this exact truck. Do you plan on putting a topper or tonneau up there? Would love to see what it looks like.

OEM bed step. Worth it for me and doesn’t stick down as far as the 3rd gen’s. Install is about 10min or so.

Curious, how did you get that inner top bolt installed? I can’t get to it with the drop down piece blocking it.

Are you referring to the very top bolt? You half install it and slide it up and tighten with a wrench? No socket wrench will fit on that one. I actually used these instructions.

a quality fine tooth box end ratcheting wrench just fine in that situation.
Drive that one home majority of the way before installing the other 2...
Middle f'ing it to death with just an open end would take way to long, not efficient....

or maybe not, a thin wall ratcheting box wrench may still be to thick to get in there...
