Oh yeah. Xt225 and Super Tenere get ridden a minimum once a week if not multiple times at least for a few miles

Wr450 on the other hand.... I need to get out in the dirt more just been too hot.

For those of you with carburetor experience/cb750 experience. Bike runs fine on choke with my new Murray carbs.

However it will not idle. I’ve sprayed starter fluid around my intake boots and doesn’t seem like there is a an air leak there.

The left side carb can be taken off choke and it idles with the right side still on choke.

I did spray starter fluid on the air pod on the right side carb and the bike died. Does this indicate anything?

That being said anyone know of a shop who will work on vintage Honda cb’s? Here in seattle everyone recommends Scottie’s speed shop but he has been unresponsive in my requests. Would be willing to drive down to Tacoma if there is someone just to get this thing fixed.

If it won't stay idling with the choke off you should check the pilot. Either way it's an issue with that circuit.

I would consider this as well, at least maybe go take a test ride. Twins are a totally different animal

I would be afraid of laying it down. I do like the bike but what turned me off long ago was a guy we were riding with a guy on one and a rock hit his headlight and broke it. It was 500 bucks just for the one side. These bikes are cool looking but I just have never had a desire for one. I did have a guy ask to trade a 2017 monster for my FZ1 but I passed.

My point is more, you might like a middleweight twin, you get the low end torque of a literbike without having to have the high HP. My 90hp bike will wheelie from stop without having to rev to the moon. Being afraid of breaking something that hasn't happened is silly. Your gsxr is a relatively cheap bike to maintain but it straight up lit on fire. Breaking a headlight with a rock is a fluke. What other accidents could happen that insurance wouldn't cover? I just don't understand that reasoning.

You don’t need to understand my reasoning. I just don’t like Ducati and will never own one.

I can understand that reasoning. I like Ducati but having owned a Cagiva in the past and recalling the not so pleasant memories of that experience have no desire to repeat it.

im fortunate to have fallen in with a good crew that likes to get out, but honestly group rides offer their own problems. In the last two years ive settled into 4 dudes, and we’re all very well paired. We like a beer but not several, we like a bite, but want to ride. We’re fine taking responsibility for ourselves if we get separated so others don’t stress out. We all ride Guzzi’s so if there’s a mechanical issue, there’s comfort in the hive. It’s been great. All 4 are never free so it’s normally 2-3 dudes which is perfect. Larger groups introduce a bunch of dynamics and the result is less miles and more socializing/slower. That’s fine every so often but I’m more interested in the 200 mile days with a pal or 2.

Interesting group also. 33 doctoral candidate married and a 3 yr old. 57 yr old grandpa with a fiance. 64 yr old commercial Jet Mechanic eyeing retirement, and a 74 yr old lifelong bachelor. We all love bikes and ride Guzzi’s. Means no matter who shows up there lots to talk about.

Had to pass up on the 2-3 group dynamic this weekend because I moved 2 weeks ago and needed the free weekend days to settle in. My ‘shop life’ has taken a massive, possibly fatal hit and I’m trying to figure that out.

hope ya’ll are finding this Monday agreeable.

I ride alone most of the time and somewhat by choice. It's hard finding people to ride with where you really mesh well. I used to ride with more friends but as time went on many of those friends sold their bikes and quit riding for financial or health reasons or simply their interests changed. My ex rode her own bike and was actually a very skilled rider and we used to do long distance rallies as a team. Sadly in other areas we drifted apart and realized it wasn't working anymore though we've remained friends. My fiancee enjoys riding with me and has done an Iron Butt ride and 2 of the longer rides that you have a year to complete. There is one couple that I rode with in the past and have reconnected with and ride with now occasionally. Mikey had a hip replacement last year and while he's back riding he needs to stop about every 60-90 minutes to get off and stretch out his leg and hip. For me that's a small price to pay and I never complain about it with him.

In some ways my style of riding has made me my own worst enemy. Not everybody wants to ride 300+ miles or more in a day. Last month when I went to Vintage Motorcycle Days in Ohio I was fortunate enough to have hooked up with another rider who enjoys traveling by bike and has an extensive riding history including racing at the professional level so I had zero qualms about riding with him.

This thread is hard to keep up with! Even seems relatively busy on the weekends, lol.

Wife and I did the WMST class for permits Friday-Sunday. I learned a lot about clutch control at low speeds. Never needed that or was taught it when learning ATVs/Dirtbikes growing up.

I got perfect scores on the tests... but sadly my wife choked on the riding test. She failed on this one... which she did better than me during the class...

    upload_2024-8-26_7-57-57.png

She's already signed up for a retake... just a total bummer. The whole idea of getting motos was her idea. We both know she can do it, but I never knew just how bad her testing / all eyes on her anxiety was.

Not sure how it is where you are at, but can you go to the location where the actual ground markers for the actual test are painted and practice? There is one DMV location near me that has the actual riding course test for the CA DMV and they dont have a problem and encourage you to come out on the weekend / before or after hours when they arent open to practice. Its helped a few buddies pass the riding test for sure.

No redo's allowed on the test? The one here in BC you're allowed 2 retries, but are scored for doing so, and if too many add up you'll still fail.

It's signed pretty well not to be on the course without authorization/with an instructor. Also doesn't help she doesn't have her own bike yet. We did the class on their bikes, and honestly I'm glad. Way easier for me to put my feet down on the BWM G310R than on my CB500X, lol. We're still watching for a bike for her, there's one relatively local we'd like to take a look at, just haven't had a chance.

Of the 5 test scenarios, a couple of them have allowances to retry for specific criteria. Like if you didn't go quite fast enough before you did the swerve or the quick stop. I'm not exactly sure what failed her (like the specifics of the score for crossing line or putting foot down or whatever), but it was pretty obvious she choked and did BAD.

Gotcha. Still unfortunate, hopefully it doesn't play in her mind too much on the redo. My wife had a such a terrible time understanding clutch control on her CBR125 that she gave up on biking entirely. Once moving she was OK, but couldn't always get the slip / throttle right. She drives manual cars no issue though.
