I’m not gonna buy it, I’m just saying I’d rather finance 10k for a cool old Cruiser than 50k for a new F150 that’ll probably be going back to the dealer every other month.

The only newer car I’d consider would be one of the last 4.0 4Runners.

Nobody should be using one of the big corporate banks anyway

My CU will finance just about anything with the right terms. Also I’d have more confidence in a well maintained 30 year old Toyota than some clapped out 2015 Altima.

You're stawman arguing against yourself. Why compare apples to oranges in your weird financing fantasy?

There’s just no reason to when CUs exist. Most of the big banks shouldn’t even be here anyway after 2008.

It just comes down to service history and condition for me. People in the states are conditioned to fear high miles and age. Meanwhile look at what people on their world countries drive. You don’t see anyone in a new Elantra.

Maybe you should be a new car salesman.

Lightstream is the way to go. Interesting rates a bit higher being unsecured loans but total freedom to buy what you want. Used them a couple times with great success.

o_O why did you push it back? Afraid to commit?

We aren't in very different situations you and I, moving for work, broke truck, but I just can't wrap my head around how you sit on your hands with everything. Hopefully that will fade as you get older.

Idk man, we've led the horse to water dozens of times and the horse keeps pissing in the well.

His truck is paid off, costs probably $1500/year in maintenance and thinks that by getting something newer but out of warranty is going to be cheaper - with a car payment. Not to mention the talk of a car when he may move to one part of Idaho you definitely want a 4x4.

I’ll probably just end up keeping it if it’ll ever get running right again.

History shows you make purchases without either in hand though.

And you don't fear these things as well? You now revel in them, as the type of consumer who doesn't do any of his own work and must pay market rate for repairs? Those people in other developing nations have learned to keep their stuff on the road, what have you done to be able to compare yourself to them?

That is the best financial choice for you. It's not as fun or exciting as getting something different and I get that. Been there, done that. But I keep my little truck going and it's cheap as hell. If you saved up the money you would spend on a loan, and bought fun truck parts, you would love your truck even more.

Well like he said, 1500 or so in rapids every year beats 500 a month for a car payment.

You have the falsehood that your truck is at the end of its life because it needs some maintenance. Outside of rolling or wrecking my truck, I can't think of any repair that would be too great to fix and keep on the road.

Also since I'm here, I want to give a big shout-out to our overlord @Speedytech7 for helping me get the truck rebuilt this weekend. Was an absolute blast! Guy is a wizard with these things.

I personally agree, although I find I don't even pay that much yearly for all three beaters (mods don't count, they're not always repairing something). But I'd spend a lot more than $1500 a year on these vehicles if I had to pay to have them repaired, one TB job and an oil change could be that much haha.

But for someone who needs transportation and tends to argue himself into complete inaction on the reg like yourself, the ease of mind of say a ~$275-350 lease might be just what you need to be free from maint/repair. You can ride out the beginning of vehicle life (when you're concerned it'll turn out to be a lemon) entirely safe from those consequences and if you decide you like the vehicle you can purchase it after with a warranty still and your lease payments will basically have paid some of the loan as if it was new.

Glad you made it back safe! Was fun to BS and work on the Green truck.

I mean at this point, I think I've touched every part of these trucks and really if my engine were to completely grenade, putting another together and in would be cheaper than replacing all my suspension
