Never did complete the dragster, I did sell the LS last night though. Just gotta figure out tires, 31s on it are about done due to some checking on the side wall. 33s would be a good spot to land, but it's not THAT much more money to put 35s on and it's already tubbed... Overkill maybe.

I would go for maybe some skinny 35's or whatever good 35 you can find that doesn't weigh a ton. Those Kenda R/T's seem to be popular and aren't an aggressive MT

I was looking at some mickey Thompsons, they have a decent middle of the road tread on them.

Run them till you wear them out! Just a DD for now, since I assume most of your solo adventures are still van life.

You and me have VERY different ideas of what is safe to run as a tire. Weather checking in the sidewall is not something I play with. Most of the times I see your truck your tires are well past the point of what I would consider safe to use. Granted I get you are looking at it from a dollar perspective and go through tires sooner than me, but for me, it's risk management.

I've been super impressed with the Falken RTs on my 2nd gen.

They do a 35x11.50 load range C with 3 ply sidewalls. :boink:

Last time I was shopping for thirty fives, the faulkens all came in heavier than anyone else. I'll have to take a look and see if that's still the case. Was a huge turn off. If I wasn't worried about snow/ice performance I would not hesitate to get the yokies again. Lightest of the bunch.

Huh, really? I've never run anything past the wear bars, so while I totally get that I'm losing traction, I don't think there's any danger there. On the flip side, I know you really want some 35s.

How old are the 31s, and how back is the checking?

You are hard on your tires and it shows. They wear a lot of battle scars. The fact you had one split open, not cut open, this last trip is telling to me... Not ragging on you, just a different view on things.

35s open up the need to regear, so I gotta do some homework before I fully commit.

The current ones looked to have a date code back to 2018 so 6 years, it's not terrible but not comforting either. I probably put too much emphasis on tire condition than is necessary.

In fairness to me, I think that gash weakened the tire for sure, but I ran over a sharp something on the gash during that rocky climb which is what did it in. I say that only b/c I've been running that tire with the gash for more than a year now. Still, I agree that it should have been replaced. I didn't only because I knew I wasn't getting another set of 16" S/T Maxxs, and I don't see too much problem in getting a flat (besides inconvenience*). Of course, I'm also a reasonably slow driver, even on the highway, so there's that.

Anywhoo, really just wanting to save you a few bucks at a time when I know you're trying to figure out the next few years. At the end of the day, you know I want that truck in trip-top shape and ready to roll!!!

    * And this time, it wasn't even inconvenient, since someone else changed it for me! ;)

@m3bassman the Kendas come in a 35x10.5r17...just saying. Granted you'd need different wheels. So get some 17s and then get some 32s for the 16 wheels and bam. Good to go.

The mickey Thompsons are the same size I had, but $309 a piece through discount. Still see plenty of 315/75/16 available.

lightest of the bunch, but they suck pretty bad in snow and sand forsure. I'll be curious on what you think of the mickeys if you go that route. I might follow suit since I don't wanna change to a 17in rim, so that limits my options.

I'll be sure to report back once I get them and some miles on them. Seem better than an AT but not as aggressive as an MT.

I have those Baja legends. There been great in sand, sloppy mud, and rocks. Plus good rain. No snow or ice experience though.

DuroBumps on the front. Soaked the originals with PB yesterday, one beer job, nice upgrade but they are are pricey. But I have them in the rear figured I should balance it out hehe.

How has the wear been? They say they are rated to 50k miles, do you see that being your experience?
