I've been thinking about getting a Scan Gauge for my truck. Will it compute the fuel economy even though my truck does not show the MPGs?

Yes it will, and a whole lot more. It will take a few fill ups to calibrate it, but it will give you the info you want.

Hint: do not tell it to track the dollars per miles. It will only depress you.

Yes, you have to train it though by filling the tank each time and telling it how much you put in.

Once it's trained it's pretty accurate, mine is rarely off more than 0.3 gallons when I fill up.

Not by default but there's x-gauge codes for trans temps.

Yes, it will, but it takes a bit of programming. My inner geek liked the challenge. I only opted for the pan temp, I didn't feel the need to program in the TConverter temp.

I wish I had side by side view of the #2&#3 SG. I like the size of the numerals of the SG2. Are the SG3 readouts smaller? Might be a deal killer for me.

SG3 readout are larger with more options. The unit is much bigger and the display color are changeable. Downfall, it’s 3x more.

    i didn’t like the 2

I vote for scangauge 2. It’s cheaper smaller and more simple. I like simple and it only blocks my headlights on dash light and cruise control on dash light when mounted on my steering column. I monitor avg mpg, trans temp, rpms, and coolant temp.

I had the Scangauge 2 on my 1st gen. I've had the Scangauge 3 on my 2nd gen for about a year now. It will track mpg, instant and average. It will also do AT temps in/out. There are three pages worth of parameters that can be accessed by swiping left or right. Each page can have info displayed, up to a 3x3 grid, it's all user selectable. You can also add alarms. For example, you can set an alarm for if the AT fluid gets above a certain temp.

Just added one on my 2013 to monitor tranny temps. Adding a larger trans cooler soon.

Scan gauge looks like a fabulous accessory. However, can one get all the same or at least most of the same Intel via an android head unit (like a Joying or dasaita)?

Man, I've had my Scangauge II for almost 18 years now. I like to display my mileage and trans temp info. It's definitely helped me improve my mileage more than anything else.
I thought about switching to the SG III, but it's too large to fit where I want it to.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
FWIW I considered getting a scangauge, but then I upgraded my head unit to a Pioneer with the idatalink RR module that plugs into the OBD port. That gives me all the info I need on-screen(multiple pages actually, but all user-configurable), at the touch of whatever steering wheel button I want to program it to.

Including average and instant fuel mileage, TPMS pressure/temp readings per-tire, and even reads CEL codes. And no need to mount an additional screen.

Not sure if the scangauge may be more suited to your specific needs, but worth a thought if you also happen to want to install a new HU. As said above, there are also droid-based and other head units out there with app capabilities, but I have no experience with those

This is the rabbit hole I'm resisting going down.

Wanting to change out the head unit on my '21. I know I'll be getting a head unit that can gather all the info that the scan gauge can.
