Liquidating my parents estate the last 15 months. Had solid oak furniture that was literally given away, I only collected a modest delivery fee. The genuine leather Laz-y Boy power recliners (2) and love seat sold after a few months for $100 to a halfway home. Furniture holds zero value.

 

We just helped a neighbor haul a bedroom set she paid $300 for. But that was solid cherry. Very nice stuff. Still, a fraction of its original cost.

I agree for the most part. I actually sold my leather lazy boy for $25 because it was used and I wanted it gone. But a couch that goes for $6-8k new and $2500-$4k on the used market doesn't get sold for 1/4 the low end when it quite literally looks like it just got taken off the truck.

 

And sadly theres rent to own places...that have an excessive payment plan for furniture

I have no clue what brought this memory up.
When I was 14, I went to visit my family down in Key West (we were living in Georgia at the time). I stayed with my uncle and cousin in Miami for a bit before my cousin and I went down to the keys to stay at his mom's place. When I was going to leave, my cousins mom decided to just drive up for a visit instead of me flying.
On the way up, we made a bunch of stops to check out the sights along the way. Outside St. Augustine, we stopped at burger king for lunch. She went apeshit because her whopper didn't look exactly like the picture on the menu. I mean, full freaking boss Karen. How they didn't call the cops on her, I have not clue.
That woman is a real piece of work. Her husband, after my uncle, wears floral dresses that he buys at goodwill. She went through a phase where she became a "monk", who smoked and harvested salt to sell to buy nice things. She was also a vegetarian who loved steak and pork.
Great memories with my cousin. His mom, not so much. Not so many with my uncle either, but when I was little, I was in his jeep in Miami and he had a full auto Uzi under the seat because of his "job" that had to do with go fast boats.
