Theres low mileage motors for $800-2000 nearby... just buy a junkyard motor

That’s a fair point. I guess I could get a second opinion, but then I’d have to pay for another tow and diagnostic fee, and I’m not gonna find a better price for the head installs. I only owe him 550 for the timing job.

    Damn that sucks.

I replaced my heads beginning of the year, I should’ve just thrown in a junkyard engine. You’ll spend a lot more doing heads, and you’re left with the same old high mile bottom end.

I’ll look around. JDM is also a possibility. I’m a little wary of going the used engine route though, since this is already the trucks’s second motor. They’re called junkyards for a reason I guess. There are some rusty or wrecked ones around with good engines though.

I'd kinda do it as an exchange, I know the machine shop here does good work and will be cheaper than most for freshly rebuilt heads that are drop in ready. He's usually about $350 per head for a clean/valve job/deck operation. The other option is you could bypass me and my fee for the legwork and shipping and send your heads right to Spokane Cylinder Head Service too, they get shipped in orders all the time.

Yea but how do you know the scrapyard engine won’t be just as bad? Even if it’s low miles, all the seals and plastics are probably bad.

Hm yea I’m just not sure if they’re cracked. I’m sure there’s a decent machine shop around here somewhere if I’m going that route though.

Yea he said the engine was replaced back in 2020. I assume it was a junkyard motor since it didn’t look new and he said it was only 2500. No idea how many miles were on it. It was a pretty healthy engine before the fan bracket took it out though.

Curious, have you used this shop/mechanic before? Is it a shop or just a guy? Basically, is this person trustworthy? Seems like he’s had your truck for a significant amount of time for what he’s finding out.

I think something is messed up, running when you dropped it off, even if it had messed up heads, now nothing

he has rave reviews on google. Maybe he had some kind of personal issue, cause in the last few weeks he’s been pretty good at responding and keeping me updated.

Maybe. It felt like it was on its last legs when I got it there though.

In other news, took the day off because I worked about bunch over the weekend and it's the last day before school starts again.

Pads and rotors for $149? Seems decent, thank you work discount

That's what I was trying to get him to come around to. The truck was running rough but it was running. He should be getting it running before shotgunning parts at it. Is it possible the timing is so fucked up it won't start?
Zanes a good dude, his prices are great, cheeseburgers and beer seems to be the going rate.

Yeah but you'd know pretty fast, the number one mistake to make is the crank being 180* out and it would pop like a mofo
