Every time I go in for service I keep telling them not to check the air filters. When I get the truck back, the engine sounds like a g35 with a cat delete because they didn’t close the air filter box.

Taking my 2017 to big brand tire this morning for new tires, an alignment and gasp an oil and filter change. :fingerscrossed:

I'll check it before I leave. :cookiemonster:

Yeah, that would definitely cause some problems--waiting until something happens is not the answer.

I'm very fortunate to be able to do my own oil changes.

A lot of what if's going on here. Even if the filter was missing or the oil was low there's nothing OP can do aside from starting over and changing it again. :deadhorse:

Yup. I’m starting over. Thankfully I “only” drove it 150 non dusty miles and caught it relatively early

IMG_1260.jpg I painted my oil cap bright yellow after the same thing happened to me on my first (and only) free oil change. At least my oil cap was still sitting down on the skid plate.

Ever set the oil cap on top of the engine cover and have it fall into the engine bay? Talk about a fishing expedition or a game of plinko. Last time mine went all the way to the skid plate tucked into the corner. Took a while to find it.

I did look around quite a bit both yesterday when it was getting dark and today, when I took off the oil filter cover.

We shall see. I'll be pretty satisfied if/when they show up with the parts without me having to go there.

I stopped the "Toyota Care" when they made me wait 4 hours to change my oil and "update software". After I asked them about how things were going 3 hours into the oil change they let me know they couldn't reach the Toyota server.

I'm good. I'll do the oil changes myself.

To be fair the other reason was to do the recall for the rear axle nuts. Which was popping up in my infotainment constantly.... Can't avoid dealer for everything. I want to give these guys a chance but like a pitbull it keeps chewing up my kids despite all my love and care.

Just the opposite. The crankcase is pressurized by piston ring blow-by gases, hence the name for the PCV valve on the valve cover - positive crankcase ventilation. Some dirt can still get in, but nothing an oil change can't fix. Don't do any "Italian tuneups" until then

The last time I went in for a free oil change I got charged 35k for a new truck.

I actually have had great luck with my dealer service. I once had a qwiklube tech reattach my skid with one bolt and call it good though. They bought me a new skid after I dropped it in traffic.

Go back and ask to meet the tech because you want to give him a tip.
Then give him this tip: If your head was any further up your a$$ I wouldn’t be able to see your hands.
