Been a year or so since I've been to the beach, that would be nice if it weren't a bit of a haul.

Idk, I mean there’s only so many things that will stop one of these engines from running. This mechanic seemed pretty sure it was bad valves. Like I said it seems like getting a second opinion would be more trouble than it’s worth - I don’t wanna start all over again.

The one thing I wasn’t sure on is how he was so positive that the bottom end was still good. How does he know I didn’t wash down the cylinders and rings when it had the misfire?

Takes a good while to do damage from washdown, cause even while they're being washed down more oil is being slung up there. Pretty hard to damage the bottom end on these unless you run with very low or very contaminated oil.

Been maybe 8 times or so this year, but the 3+hr drive each way sucks with a little doggo that gets car sick :(

Is moving fun? Plan to be in Spanish form tomorrow night. Then on the Albuquerque on Thursday so I can spend the weekend unpacking and golfing with my old man. Loaded the truck all the way up with a could hundred points of tools and totes and she barely squatted.

He is just spit balling at this point. Honestly you should hold the line that the truck needs to run again, before springing for the other work. I think you are going to have to take it to another shop regardless.

I get you like his prices but I can tell you from my experience, I would rather spend a bit more on the mechanic and know it's getting done right vs be in your shoes.

It's about 6.5hrs from where I am to some water that isn't a river. I dunno maybe I'll pack everything up tomorrow and skedaddle to the Oregon coast on Friday evening.

You may be right. I just kinda wanna be done with it at this point. I don’t wanna wait around for another month worsting for him to maybe get it barely running.

When life gets hard kid, you gotta push your back up against the wall and keep pushing. Just find another shop, pay your $500 and try to take a lesson in it.

Kinda funny when you put it that way hahaha I think it will need longer shocks as it's barely got any down travel at ride height, and today's experiment proves it won't squat more when loaded for a trip. It's always something :frusty:

It's hard to do that with stock position shock mounts because then you limit uptravel, I mean we can bump you lower but I'd probably just pull a leaf and lower the front a turn or two

In also kinda pissed cause I thought I asked him to test the compression before digging into it any further, since I didn’t wanna put a bunch of money into a junk engine. And now that’s exactly what’s happened. I just wasted over a grand on the fan bracket and timing kit.. just wanna be rid of it at this point.

Yes I should’ve sold it a year ago. I don’t even care at this point. I just want it gone. It’s been hanging over me for months now.

Well, get it back up to snuff and just keep it.

The worst thing you can do is once you put all this money into it and get it fixed, you get rid of it for another shitbox with unknown history.

I've said this to you before when you got your Tacoma or even your Land Cruiser - a seller's words don't mean shit unless they have an invoice with their name on it tying said work to the vehicle being sold.

Otherwise, I assume the risks and ask myself if I'm prepared to handle A, B, and/or C when the time comes.
