    Hello,
For the past few months I have been trying to find a compatible plug that works with the OEM 10 pin plug nestled in the cabin roof. I believe this plug is used for powering auto-dimming mirrors, compass, etc. which I do not have so the plug is completely unused. I have been in contact and tried a few different Dongar products to no avail. I have e-mailed two other vendors that are recommended on TacomaWorld, but am still waiting to hear back. At this point I am willing to try Ebay plugs or custom solutions. Sorry for the blurry photo below. (note: I was in a serious car accident last summer - Kenworth drove through my Celica at a red light and I have lost some hand control causing issues with holding cameras/cell phones).

Are you sure the dash cam doesn't pull more current that the wires can handle?
    Those are small wires.

The cam I have pulls about 0.14 amps at 5 volts. My assumption is that since these cables are for powering the mirror and compass out of the factory, then just powering a lone dash cam should be fine. Dongar has an adapter that slots into the mirror for powering dash cams. What my confusion is that the standard harness is a 12 wire plug as opposed to the 10 wire I have - so I could be wrong in my thought process.

I really would like to take advantage of this available plug but as last resort I could run a power wire down to the fuse box or lighter at worst.

If you can find which two pins are power and ground, it'd be pretty easy to get a multimeter on them and figure out how much juice is flowing through it.

If you don't have a low voltage cut-off, I wouldn't wire the dash cam to an always-powered source. Your battery will drain after a few days if the battery is not charged.

Agreed. Just was hoping there was a plug and play option. I will definitely go that route if nothing is available. Dongar has some kits that can just wire directly into those power lines for my needs.

My understanding is this plug is not an always powered source as the mirrors and compass are off when the truck is off. Otherwise I definitely agree with your statement.

Doesn’t your rear-view mirror have a power connector? That’s where I tapped in for my dash cam, plug and play. But I have an auto-dimming mirror, so maybe not all Taco mirrors have it?

It does not have a power mirror.

My tacoma does not have a powered rear-view mirror, compass, or homelink. This plug is unused and stored in the roof above the overhead console.

Then it’s powered by the IG1 No2 fuse.
You can’t use the one tied to the tail fuse.
The tail fuse only gets power with the head lights on.

Mine is 07 also, but has the electrical connector. I wonder if the connector is tucked in the harness.

Note: will be black flat connector with about ten pins across in a single row, but only two or three wires on it.

Also, there is a purple/white wire. It comes from the dash cluster.
It doesn’t say what the wire “is for”. It could be power. I have no idea. But I don’t like tapping into wires I don’t about.

Also, white/black is the ground wire.

I appreciate the images and thoughts. Yeah I'm not a fan of tapping into unknown wires either. In almost 20yrs of owning this truck, I haven't had one issue and I plan on keeping it another 10-15 years (~68kmiles). No need to mess things up. But with those informative diagrams I have a huge jumpstart for wiring into stuff if a plug and play option doesn't work out. If the community nor vendors can help out, I will go this route.

That's what confused me - neither wire is present. I believe the brown wire is power but the yellow, two greens, pink, and purple/white were a mystery. I am guessing the purple/white is the ground but have not pulled out the multimeter yet.

If I'm not making sense - I haven't used a multimeter much but have no issues handling things - just need to read up/refresher. Again thanks for the diagrams.

Yeah. Your wires don’t correspond to the diagrams above.
I need to do a little more digging.
