It's in front of the wheel, why is it called a trailing arm?
What's the purpose of said arm?

 

I'm fairly certain the algorithm hiccuped a little. They certainly aren't OE....but as stated may fall under "an accessory that enhances safety or vehicle protection". It's possible that reducing rock chips could enhance "vehicle protection". You and the Deputy may need to analyze some code

Trailing arms are usually in front of the wheel when they are on the rear. It depends on the set up, but generally they are there to provide stability. In this case helping to quell the rotational movement (perpendicular to the body) that live axles tend to have.

Sometimes trailing arms are part of the actual suspension. Like this picture of the rear torsion beam I replaced in the Yaris back in '22. The arms are welded to the beam and the axles bolt directly to them.
