Concerned About Using a Damaged Lower Oil Pan: Seeking Advice on Potential Issues

    Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out for some advice on a recent issue I encountered with a lower oil pan I bought for my Tacoma. The part arrived with noticeable damage, specifically gashes on the flange where the oil pan contacts the engine block.

Longo Toyota, where I purchased it from, initially promised a replacement once they saw photos of the damage but a day later reneged on the promise and claimed the damage was just a "cosmetic scuff" and decided not to send a new one. They told me I should proceed with the damaged part.

My question is: should I be concerned about using this damaged oil pan? The gashes are right where the oil pan seals against the engine block, and I’m worried they might lead to oil leaks or other issues.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation or have any insights on whether this kind of damage could be problematic? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

That's definitely a non-issue. There's nothing there to worry about.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I don't see a problem there, it does look cosmetic. BUT that being said, I'd keep all communication/receipts, etc in the very unlikely event that causes you issues.

Forcing a return on items like this are what causes dealers to stop selling online

There is nothing wrong with it. It will cause no issue and will not be visible once installed.

The scratches aren't even on the raised sealing surface. Even it they were it's still not an issue. The goop seals all voids..

You should see a pan that gets reused after scraping and wire brushing all the old goop off. It probably seals better as the goop bonds better.

What ever you do don't lay that on a flat surface plate. You'll shit your pants seeing all the gaps.( The goop will fill that too)

Whatever you do, don’t worry so much about those scrapes that you put too much sealant on there in case some of it gets into your oil and clogs up your oil pump and destroys your engine.
