805 Tacoma Tuning and one of our very own family members made his way to us from the Pasadena area to get his 2023 Tacoma Sport dialed in with the BlackHawk 2.1 tune developed by @yotawerxtuning.

We ended up choosing the Active Duty profile, knowing it would pair well with Gary's personal driving style.

After returning from his test drive, he simply stated the following with the all familiar post tune smile:

" Thank you so much. The truck shifts like it should, and the performance is awesome! " - Gary

Thanks for stopping by, and as always, enjoy the ride!

805 Tacoma Tuning and @premier.socal on Instagram came together today and hooked his sweet 2017 Tacoma on 35's with 5.29 gears up with the @yotawerxtuning Active Duty tune profile.

Working together with individuals like Gus is just as cool as the reactions we observe when they return from their test drive.

    Nothing but smiles!

As always, enjoy the ride, and we hope to see you around!

I installed Kdmax 9.0 in April '23 and upgraded to 10.0 in Jun '23 and now have about 12k miles with Kdmax. During that time I swapped between Normal and Normal Lite a few times. I initially enjoyed the decreased gear hunting. But just for fun I recently switched back to the stock tune and I'm actually preferring the smoothness of the stock tune. The stock tune upshifts to the next gear sooner when accelerating which results in a smoother driving experience IMO. Kdmax does fix the "gear hunting" and the Kdmax guys have always been extremely helpful when I've had questions.

I plan to continue driving with the stock tune for a while.

We're all different and have different driving styles. I can see why some folks like Kdmax.... just not sure I'm one of them.

I certainly don't regret trying Kdmax but wish it didn't cost me $750 to find out. There were no local tuners, which led me to the remote tune.

Same boat like you. I perfer the over drive gears in city drives. We paid for it so we should use those OD gears. Stock is very smooth shifting. I've been Stock since the 6.0. I've tried them all tuning the files back and forth to see which one I like. But the stock I just really perfer it to upshift sooner like you've stated. Smoother overall in city because of the OD gears and sooner upshifts. Not herky jerky in lower gear like stick shift. Now on the freeway big difference tho. If I can have Stock map for normal driving and then have there kdmax's in ect would be very beneficial for the guys that like the stock tune but want the highway of the tune from kdmax. So for that I've been sticking with stock tune. Hunting season comes around I'll switch it over to kdmax for highway runs to hold 6. But gets annoying switching back and forth. BTW stock truck.

What I recommend is flashing to Stock tune, run that for a few days or a bit, then flash to 2.1 WW BlackHawk...my truck running smooth as can be now...

I can relate to that. There's things l like about the KDMax but I too wouldn't be interested in swapping back and forth.

I'd probably try that but not willing to pay for the update.

Just switched from OTT to Blackhawk 2.1. Almost sold my truck I have been so disappointed in the drive since purchase. Accelerator pedal and gearing just seem so smart now. Truck does exactly what I expect it to do. It’s perfectly balanced between around town and highway! Keep looking or reasons to run to the store!

    Quoting myself for context.

It was suggested winter gas could be a factor as well as the MAF, but I cleaned that and I've been driving all summer on summer gas and there may have been a slight bump in MPG but I still can't break 19mpg.

I've had 3 versions of kdmax and the first two didn't really affect mpg at all. I was in the 21-22mpg range from the time of the first tune, but once I went to V10 I dropped to 18-19 and it's just stayed there.

I even removed my rack, which was on there from the first tune so not really a factor, but no real change.

I know mpg isn't going to be the same for everyone, but with only a change in the tune version I feel like I should have at least stayed about the same.

I can try a reflash, but not sure why that would help and no one around here unless there is a new tuner in the northern CO area.

    hmmm
I did enjoy free updates KD Maxx (paid a fee for v10, seemed like a right thing to do) , as well as free updates from Nexus before that, could not see anything about that on yotawerx site. Didn’t hear from anyone on this thread about it either. The quoted text below doesn’t really spark much confidence, but then again I guess won’t find anything out unless I’ll send them an email.

I don't care who you conducted business with on this forum previously. I am not them. I am not obligated to do the same. You are dealing with a different company, with different policies in place.

You can either email us at yotawerxtuning@gmail.com to get the ball rolling and to begin conducting business with us in a normal fashion, or you can elect to not upgrade to the new calibration offering. No one's twisting your arm.

No one sent to me specifically. I’ve been living under a rock for a while, recently caught up with some threads, including this one, and came across this gem, and it sort of stuck with me.

Kind of seems like bunch of us are in a similar boat regarding information, updates, stuff that we expected and took for granted In accordance with original promise/ agreement with KDMax. It was mentioned here before that KD Max could have reached out to its customers and notify us on how, and where we stand regarding original promise/ agreement. They didn’t. They left it up to us to reach out to the New company (via email) to find out where we stand.
Nexxus did it differently. After their acquisition, they notified us and provided us with a free upgrade to Blackhawk. But, just as @mZiggy said in the nutshell, different deal

I’ve said that before, I guess I’ll have to reach out to yotawerx by email, and I’ll do it soon.

Thanks for reaching out @Mcbelen , I’m just not sure who you are, and what’s your association with KDMax or yotawerx
I take that back, reading posts above show that you’re associated with Yotawerx

I paid and upgraded very early on to BH2.1 and went back to KDM10 about 2 weeks later. Tried both maps and 91 with octane booster but the engine wasn’t happy without octane booster and I lost MPG. Towing was slightly better but fuel economy dropped about 2MPG. Even gave BH2.1 another try a few weeks ago and still not for me. Yes, there is more power down low with BH2.1 but the engine sounds and feels like it’s on the verge of detention. I liked the low end but I get very similar performance with ECT on KDM10, still have the option for light throttle and none of the detention issues. KDM10 is the final tune for me. I’ve spent $765 between VFTuner, KDM7, BH2.1 and all the upgrades along the way and I’m just done paying more money. An N/A motor can only make so much power and the transmission calibration is better with KDM10, in my opinion. Would have been nice if they allowed development to continue on KDM in parallel with BH but that’s how acquisitions of competitors go in late stage capitalism.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I've decided that KDM10 is my last tune. I'm not driving 3-6 hours (one way) and then paying $400+ to 'upgrade' to BH2.1 after what I've already spent on KDM tunes. If I decide I really need to try another tune, there's an OTT tuner 40 minutes from me. On top of everything, I'm not overly impressed with the new owner's attitude in some of his posts.

I had said earlier that I was still keeping an open mind...guess that's changed.

    I'm out.
