2016 Tacoma 2.7L, automatic transmission, 4X4, 76k, all maintenance including fluid changes done No load on board, in drive, level freeway. The engine rpm occasionally sticks at about 2800-3000. When I tap accelerator pedal it drops to normal 1500-1600 rpm. This only happens every few days. Otherwise, the engine rpm’s are fine. Any advice?

Sounds like the overdrive solenoid and lockup isn't kicking in.

Are you using cruise control when this occurs?

If so, totally "normal". I have the V6, but it does the same thing. Best I can tell, once cruise control is activated, the powertrain management systems run on a different shift logic or "tune". When you tap the accelerator, you're overriding that cruise control logic, and it reverts to normal driving shift logic until you take your foot back off the pedal.

I have no idea why the shift logics don't match, but I've definitely noticed a difference between cruise control vs manual control on the highway.

    Keep tapping the accelerator. :D

Seriously. Mine does that on a bit of a random basis as well. Don't have much hwy running with mine, but it's happened. Same solution
