I’d like to see it but guessing Mick would have priority. However money talks…

Replace one guy who is mediocre and costs a lot of money in crashed cars with another guy who was mediocre and cost a lot of money in crashes? Makes total sense.

Guess they are going with someone who has a history of zero crashes in F1… an improvement of sorts:rofl:

He's unproven in F1 but he also hasn't proven to crash all the time like Sargent or Schumacher. Even if he gets no points but doesn't total a couple cars Williams still comes out ahead.

I still think DeVries would have been perfect for Williams, he definitely was not a RB driver. Shame how that all went about.

Really would like to see a successful American driver in F1. I'm amazed with the US's population and resources its yet to get a lasting break through. Futbol, is primarily European and South American, and yet over the years Americans have been able to break through with varying levels of success at the highest levels. Yet in F1, they just can't break through. I know NASCAR, and Indy/CART are different disciplines, but you'd think a young driver would have made the cut by now (outside of Sargent).

Its definitely surprising. But unless they’re willing to move to Europe at a young age to start in karting and catch the eyes of teams/sponsors/etc over there I think it’s a long shot. I have no doubt there are plenty of current talented drivers in multiple disciplines that could do well in F1. But when there’s only 20 in the world with an old way of bringing drivers through the ranks it’s not happening. Doesn’t help our American f1 team sucks and doesn’t bring in American drivers lol

I ran into a guy this summer, an American, who races in Europe. I asked this question and his response is that many of the good European racetracks are closer together than those in the US. The facilities are also more well maintained and pit facilities are generally superior to what's found in the US. His point was that this engenders more of the population to become involved in the racing community. Everything from driving, to wrenching as well as other support roles.

I'd love to hear others opinions on this. I can certainly see needing to travel several hundred, to thousands of miles, between races would limit the number those willing or financially able to do so. And if you only race at one or two tracks, no matter how good you are, you're unlikely to be able to progress to the next level unless you're able to travel further afield. I should think if this were somehow mitigated (wishful thinking), the US has lots of potential to bring up more great racers capable of competing outside the US.

It makes sense that stock car and Aussie super car drivers can't get a super license. F1s bias against awarding super license points to Indy Car drivers in the same way they award to F3 and F2 drivers is a travesty.

Makes a lot of sense. Especially when looking at road circuits. I’ve got plenty of ovals within a few hours but Road Atlanta is really the closest legit track near me. Buddy of mine races motorcycles but can only really afford to stay in the smaller scene on the east coast because of travel.

I'm late to the party but I finally watched Brawn on my flight. Was quite enjoyable. And made me hate Eccelstone even more lol
