Does putting a lift kit/ leveling kit add any extra strain to the CV joints/axles? I had some 2.5 PE installed about a month ago and recently saw they were angled more than usual (idk maybe they were angled before but I figured it was because of the 2 inched gained in the front. Don’t usually go off-roading I just got the kit for better quality of life ride since the roads aren’t the best where I live.
Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question but offroad suspension parts and maintenance are not my forte.

    thanks in advance

Yes a lift/level will add strain to CV’s. Most will say 2” of lift and under will not harm anything. However there are a ton of guys running 2” lifts and still tearing CV boots regularly, myself included.

The extra CV angle caused by the lift allows the fins of the boots to touch. When they touch they wear and will eventually tear. After market option exist to fix this issue along with diy fixes (boot slide mod) but mileage varies.

    good luck op.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I wish I had known about this before I installed them. I would like to avoid any other aftermarket parts so I might install the factory springs back on. Is it a tedious process at all?

Looking at the picture, the inboard CV boot fins aren't digging into each other, so the lift isn't severe enough to cause premature boot failure. That's it. The CV itself is mechanically pretty robust; nothing will happen to it.

As stated above, as long as the fins are not touching each other, good to go…

You’re fine. I have a 2.5” lift in the front and wheel the heck out of my truck all over the country. I’m pretty careful when I’m wheeling not a break a CV and mine lasted 50k without tearing a boot. I ended up just wearing out the inner joint on both. Replaced with OEM and have been good to go. That’s a lot of cycles of full droop without a sway bar and front locked as well.

Thanks for the reassurance! I appreciate the photos. Makes me feel better considering I wont be using my suspension to that extreme.

Had to adjust my boots after the lift. Boots have lasted over 100k yours don’t look too bad!
