So I changed out my VVT solenoids last week because I was having the low RPM/Speed Shudder with no codes.
I have double checked the connections and found that it wasn't seated all the way. so I reseated the connection fully and reset the code. On my second trip the code returned. I feel that I may have received a bad solenoid but wanted to check everyone else's opinion and experience.

    Thanks

If the code wasn't present before changing the solenoids then yea hopefully it's just a defective solenoid. Were the solenoids OEM and not Amazon/ebay specials?

Not Amazon or ebay but not OEM either. They were Gates from Rock Auto. No codes were present prior to the change. I was reading that they recommend an oil change with filter after replacement which I have not done yet but may when I receive the replacement.

If you have been keeping up with your oil changes that shouldn't be an issue but if they have been neglected then yea it would be a good idea, may need to clean the VVT screens as well.

I keep up with my oil changes. I run mobile one 15k mile synthetic and generally change at about 10k miles or 1 year whichever comes first. Although I cant speak for the 1st 140k of the trucks life I can only speak to the most recent 80k.

So you had no code to begin with, then changed the VVT Solenoid and got a code?

    Can I ask?
What made you think the low rpm / stumble was caused by the VVTS?

If the was no code, I’d be looking at MAF sensor cleaning, Throttle Body cleaning, and examining the plugs.

The 1GR will stumble at low rpm when the plugs get worn.
It won’t set a code either.

I have seen where a few people have had a shudder/stutter similar to TCC shudder be caused by the VVT solenoids with no codes, it's not common and I'm not saying that was the case here but it has happened.

A quick search for Torque Converter shudder with these engines and you will find that the VVT's can be the cause of this similar symptom. So I would rather spend less than $150 for a possible fix than to start throwing parts at the transmission.
As an electronics tech by trade I find it odd that I only started getting the code once replaced. However not beyond the realm of possibility of receiving a bad solenoid. Which is why I thought I would ask and see what others experiences have been and make sure I was not overlooking something. I have already ordered a replacement and I am waiting on it to come in hopefully all will be well once I get it and get it changed out again.

    All stock, baby!
Yeah, me and a few others experienced this. A member pm’d me a couple weeks ago and had the same experience as well.

Guessing aftermarket solenoids, replace them with oem and see what happens. Return the aftermarket’s to Rock Auto.
