The unfortunate thing is, he's the type of person that'll easily convince himself to do it right then and there.

Some people buy on impulse, and it can be a huge financial mistake but it can be a difficult concept for some to both walk away, and/or take time to think about said purchase.

Walking away and saying no is a sure way to get a much better deal to begin with (unless the item being sold is a screaming deal, and those don't normally last long), and better yet, a good way to prevent from making a big mistake.

I actually like the Element. They have a cult following and a certain niche enthusiast appeal, and would be great for camping. I just couldn’t do technical trails in it but whatevs.

And I'm trying not to make it a dig at you, but some people really are just wired that way.

It sucks because I've seen some people make not-so-smart decisions and get screwed over royally because they believed what was said right then and there, and bought on emotion.

That’s what I was thinking on the Land Cruiser. Insurance would probably be cheaper on that or the Element too. Meh, after all this I’ll probably just end up getting a beater I can drive til the wheels fall off with whatever pittance I can get for my crippled truck.

You've got time, you're literally sitting at your computer (or phone).

Have you considered using your current insurance company's app or website to do some quick quotes on an Element, Land Cruiser, and other various vehicles just to get an idea of your new obligation?

You need to play things smart; you only benefit when you make an informed decision.

    And that's perfectly understandable.

Kind of wish I could go out there and help; I've done it plenty of times and saved people hundreds (or more).

I can see Zane and Ben doing the same; it's usually the only way you can do it and get ahead financially when going through cars like one goes through boxers.

Yeah I'm gonna go to the CU tomorrow and see if financing would even be possible, then I can call my insurance for some quick quotes.

Any way you can do the insurance thing online?

Many companies allow full online access - just need a vin to enter for a quote once you're in your account.

Anyway, if I wanted to get my truck back on the road, it sounds like it'll be in the 3-4k range for either a used engine, or redoing the heads. I have a feeling they're cracked though. Most of these kind of situations with these motors seem to result in cracks between the exhaust valves, but I could be wrong.

Idk if I'd trust a used engine either - even if it has good compression and runs decent, who's to say the valve stem seals wouldn't be shot?

yea I can take a look after I go see the vehicles in person. I've already seen the Cruiser, but I'd want a compression test on that bitch before I even considered going forward with it. Maybe a radiator block test too, and take it on the highway while looking at the coolant temps.

Maybe a single cab with the 2.7. I'm kind if tired of dealing with truck beds though. It's cool for the one time a year I have to move furniture or something. The rest of the year my stuff just gets wet.

Add another 2500 or so to get it really ship-shape (rack, suspension, mysterious brake fluid loss, exchanging the too-short driveshaft, etc.). I could get another used truck for 6k or so, but it'd probably need similar work anyway at that price.
