    Yeah that doesn't surprise me.

Oof. Can't sit up even I bet though. That would not be fun.

No i was understanding it. That sounds like an uncomfortable way to camp to me. But whatever. If the desire to spend 3 grand is that much, go for it haha

I was asking if it could be upright as it would give you more head room.

I have not had an issue with 1/4" spacers in the 10 years they've been on my truck. I did install extended studs when I was on steel wheels. Now that I'm back to alloy I should swap back to the standard stud but haven't cared enough to do it.

As monte said I'm moving south, to Albuquerque NM. Got a good job offer there and could use a fresh start. Nothing is really holding me to Boise besides a girl :anonymous: but that's not strong enough right now.

Gonna be a long night, got a a hotel in termonton, and now just waiting for a tow truck. Sent my dad off for he hotel with Foley.

    Obviously not. lol

(In seriousness, I sure hope so.)

Ben, to lighten the mood... In a somewhat related, funny moment that this made me think of, I was watching this yesterday... You are in good company.

This will start at 33 sec, and watch until 2m 30s.

Haha, that guy Dave is one of Zane's neighbors. @Speedytech7

Cracked me up with all the power tools that failed and ended up cutting the ubolt off with an angle grinder and a cutting wheel.

Now that you mention that, I knew he was. I'd just found his channel when I was over at Zanes for the 63s, and Zane mentioned he lived nearby. Kinda neat. Seems like a cool dude.

Speaking of Zane's @Speedytech7... I'm soon to be rich in taller 5th gear parts. What's shop space (and your time) like these days?

And on a not-Zane's note - are we going to try for another trip this fall/before New Years? Return to the desert? Happy to plan something in DV or Mojave or thereabouts if there are dates that work for those who have to get time off...

I have a lot of vacation time to use. But I know Devin wants to do a non truck trip at some point. Once her family leaves this weekend I'll sit down with her and figure out the calendar. Plus she's in school so if there is a truck trip I'll likely be solo anyways(with padfoot).

Shop space is short at the moment, I have a 91 Pickup getting a engine conversion and after that I've got a front end refresh to do... how long are you keeping your truck up here? Could we do your project in Oct? Also I'd love to go to DV since it has changed after the great rainstorm, I don't really have any time off though. If you end up doing a place closer to home I can probably join for a long weekend or something.

Early October is probably fine; by the end, it'll be down south, surely. Whatever though - e can play it by ear over the next few weeks and if it doesn't work till next year, no worries. I'm always just grateful that you're so helpful!

The thing I'm most worried about is that we'll need some part that I don't have. Right now, I've got a couple bearings that Dan @drr didn't have that I need to get (b/c the shop he was using was going to rebuild the trans anyway), and then whatever else I don't know about. Are there things in there that we should replace "while we're there?"
    • 90363-30047 - BEARING (FOR OUTPUT SHAFT REAR)
    • unknown p# - Toyota R150, R151, Main Shaft Bearing (Rear) (31mm ID, 59mm OD, 17mm Thick)
And, I suppose there's some non-zero chance that we open it all up and then find out I don't have the right transmission, so we just close it all back up again.

I mean you're not really opening anything up. You'll just be taking the T case off and then taking the tail housing off to expose 5th gear. You aren't actually opening up the tranny at all. So much mush else to replace while you're in there other than the bearings you're going to do.

This should have all the PNs in it: https://www.pirate4x4.com/threads/toyota-r-series-gearbox-r150-r151-r452-dyna-5th-gear-swap.2000978/

I'll keep you in the loop as things shift, the pickup is just a question mark so I'm budgeting extra time for it but in all probability it'll be done ahead of that. But if it does take that long would you be able to tentatively consider the weekend of Oct 11th?

Yeah, that's the hope. It just seems like that whole thread is sort of "sometimes it works, usually it doesn't" hahaha, because no one knows exactly how to identify whether a specific trans will work, or which parts are needed for which trans variation.

I got all the numbers I have from that thread too, and the part number-less bearing is exactly how the bearing was listed there. Sort of like the person wanted to buy the bearing seperately rather than a Toyota Part#, to save a few bucks. I need to go through the parts list more carefully (if I can find one) to see if there's somethign called "Main Shaft Bearing (Rear)" that looks like what I should buy.

I've got a few things that weekend, but I'll see if I can move them around. If I can't, how's the next weekend?
