I have a 2017 and undercoated mine once I got it. The only place they CRC is where the frame boxes (from about the front axle to about where the first seat bolts are). The rest is completely open and exposed. These frames are shit just like the 2 previous generations. Who would of thought they still would be having problems this far down the road.

I forgot to update, they finished the truck up in about a day. Overall did a pretty nice job underneath. I'd already been hitting spots that were starting to get surface rust with POR15 so with this its nice to know the frame is covered for at least another 7 years (mine is a 2015). I'm in RI but lucky I don't have to drive much as I work from home so I'm sure that will help in the long run...

I got my letter this time last year. It is the letter in post #1, it does not look like the one in this post here. I finally called the dealer today, and she ran my VIN and said my truck ins't eligible for anything. She said if I made an appointment to have them inspect my frame I would have to pay for it. Does this sound right? My 2016 definitely has a good bit of surface rust on the frame. It's to be expected living in NY, but I want to make sure I cover my ass for any future failures / frame replacement programs down the line.

Find another dealer or bring in the LSC paperwork? I had my 2016 inspected and treated in November. Barely finished saying the words "frame corrosion inspection and treatment" before the service manager asked me when I could drop it off.

Yep that worked. Called the next closest dealer, said the whole thing again, gave my VIN and setup the appointment no problem. Truck never sees a dealership since I do all my own work. I've got no allegiance or relationship with any of them.

Just bought a 2014 Tacoma from original owner. As part of the paperwork provided I see he got a letter concerning the Frame warranty campaign. The letter provided him a cutoff date of June 2022 to get the inspection done. Does anyone know if this program extends to subsequent owners or is it just the original owner? Thanks.

I believe the paperwork states it applies to the vehicle, not necessarily for the original owner. I suggest reading it again, &/or as @jerkwithkeyboard said, call a dealership.

Anyone have any photos of the work that the dealer did? Are they coating the whole frame or just a couple problem areas? I have to get this done at some point this summer.

Brought my 2011 Tacoma in today for inspection and CRC spray. Looks like I will be in a loaner vehicle for a while. After inspection they decided I need a new frame. Could take up to 3 months!

I am sure many people here have gone through the frame replacement process. Anything I should know?

Wrong forum for that. We are 3rd gen, we have a recall to spray goop on the frame not replace it. You have a 2nd gen

My fault. Did not realize this was 3rd gen. Recall was for 2011-2017. Carry on!

Bumping this up as I head down this rabbit hole. In another post about my front CV axle and differential I have photos of how bad the rust has gotten on my frame and other parts (the drive train looks the worst to my untrained eye actually). Back in spring 2021 I went to the dealership for frame corrosion inspection and had the CRC applied. Bringing it back in soon to get it inspected again and they'll see what they can do. Given warranty expires at 60 months and I'm already over 90 months in, not sure what they'll do for me, but I'll press them for some help before I end up paying a body shop to do what they can for rust mitigation and prevention.

The frame warranty is 12 years if you had the CRC applied.

So I just had mine inspected at dealer. Said they went over it with a fine toothed comb and couldn't find perforations. Also said they wish they could because they make $13k on each frame they replace! Toyota paying for the frame and work. So they encouraged I come back annually til the 12yr warranty expires in 2028. They strongly advised against applying any lanolin spray or whatever, as that absolves Toyota of liability and they won't replace the frame if that's done.

They said everything else is fine down there and drivetrain is not corroded, just some rust on control arms. That's surprising to hear since the photos in my other post show a lot of rust on what I think of as the drivetrain https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...k-mi-how-unusual-and-critical-is-this.840632/

I guess I'll follow their advice so that warranty can kick in if needed. But 2028 is only 4 years away, so I'm also considering moving on from this truck to avoid having to replace a frame in 2030 or something like that. Will see what it's like in a year.

At first I sandpaper & prod painted the welded areas , there was some visible steel, then i did that tar coating. Brand new truck had already surface rust , 25 mile truck from dealership lol.

Are there even any rusted 3rd gens yet? I did tar oil based coating on mine , cost me 990$ and this will be first winter.

Rubberized is worst from what I know, but one I got is like liquid tar that sticks. Will see how it will go thru this winter.
