Were they serious about lanolin voiding the warranty or do they just want you to let it rust away so they can make $13K? Personally I’d rather treat the frame with rust preventatives than have the dealer rebuild my entire truck.

I didn't get it in writing but they seemed serious, it was not a joke like "yeah better to let it rust". They said if there is indication that I treated corrosion on the frame, Toyota will consider that absolving them of liability and won't offer the frame replacement.

I was thinking the same thing as you, though. Would I rather wait and see if this corrodes to dangerous levels (waiting for a perforation seems like asking for trouble), and possibly end up on year 13 without any frame replacement but a very rusty frame? Or should I get a lanolin spray and just not mention it (not sure if they could tell)?

For now I'm thinking to just be diligent about car washes, but see how the frame progresses over the next 2 years. Then for the last 2 years of the frame warranty, I'll need to decide: if it's close and getting worse, let it rust and get the frame replaced; or if it's stable, get lanolin spray and try to make this frame last a long time; or move on from the truck. Open to suggestions, just what I'm thinking so far.
