THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS.

I've gotten a couple of punctures, in rear tires, in the main tread (not the sidewall) and had no problem at all repairing them with a standard plug kit.

The repairs held fine. 100mph speed test, no problem. Fast / bumpy dirt roads heavily loaded, no problem.

As long as the puncture is simple (just a round hole the diameter of a nail or screw, not a 1/2" or longer gash) IN the main tread area it's probably repairable. If it's in the sidewall --- probably best to replace the tire.

    Right,

they have ZERO incentive to fix tires, and DOUBLE (200%) incentive to not fix tires.

    1) LIABILITY Bro OMFG WHAT IF THE PLUG DOESN"T HOLD OMFG OMFG OMFG. (But brooo.. plugs in the main tread HOLD...)

    2) PROFIT. Sell a new tire! CHACHINGGGGGG! :spending:

No. My wheels are mags. I may want to get some cone-ones if I need to use the spare, but the picture was snapped up to explain the difference between the two types of lugs when it might be helpful to explain the difference.

For god's sake, just plug it and move on. The plug will hold. It's still in the tread. Not sticking out of the goddamned sidewall. Seriously. Why is this even a topic?

    1) not everyone is experienced with such things.

    2) OP has posted and seemingly abandoned ship, just as many do. If he'd answered the Q or put up a pic of the damaged area, the ongoing chatter would have died out.

    3) but we don't know, so we nag. :D

Right, I forgot to notice that OP has only 2 posts..

I shouldn't have bothered getting invested in this thread...

Never go full retard unless OP has at least 25-35 posts....

Plug it properly and it will last longer than the tire.

    Yeah.
What the heck is going on in here?

What will happen with OP's tire?

I would plug it and not worry about it. I just plug them myself now since nobody wants to do it (although Walmart did my daughter's tire for free recently since she's a Walmart+ member). Never had an issue.

I tried replacing one tire with a new one once (original tire got a sidewall gash from a rock on a freakin' gravel road, those dang Rugged Fails sucked). The truck pulled too badly, had to go back for another new one.

I've plugged a bunch of tires over the years but WHERE the puncture is matters. I've only resorted to using the spare once in the last 30 years. It's faster, safer, cleaner and a LOT easier to simply plug the hole and air it back up and keep going than it is to mount the spare. Even had a couple of tires that like the OP couldn't be saved, but the plug lasted long enough to get me to a tire store where I let them mount my spare.

Like others have said I'd have to see where the hole is before I'd say for sure. But in your case, I might well do it myself if it's borderline. A business won't take on that liability.

I don't like to buy just one tire unless the other 3 are almost new. One new tire will have a different diameter than the other 3 with 10,000 miles on them. That can cause problems with wheel speed sensors and 4X4 because the one new tire is rotating slower than the other 3. 10,000 miles is a bad place to be. That's more miles on the other 3 than I like, but still with a lot of tread left.

I'd replace at least 2 if it really can't be saved and use the other as my new spare. Or use this as an excuse to buy 4 new tires. You can sell the other 3 to help recoup the costs. Most tire stores will credit you for them if you're buying new tires.

I just talked to them yesterday. They have a new warranty policy new this summer. It comes automatically, with all new tires they sell have a free 100% replacement for any road hazards. So in this case they would give you a new tire.
