If anyone here doesn't like "oil" threads. Or any other thread for that matter, just ignore them and go to the next one.
I could never understand going through the trouble of commenting on a thread that annoyed those same people this much.

I’ve been wanting to try this but I’m nervous it could cause damage.

It doesn't clean anything it just thins your oil out so it doesn't work as well. I've tried all of these tricks. None of them work.

Decent results with that Valvoline restore and protect oil. Some people also like that HPL engine cleaner. I haven't tried that, but they are a very reputable company.

You discount seafoams ability to clean a motor yet propose a "restoration" product that claims to also "protect" oil. Oil doesn't need a protective additive and anything with "restore" in it's name is smack in the middle of the snake oil category.

This argument is the equivalent of saying "well he also also stole a cookie too."

The valvoline restore & protect oil has a good reputation with the oil nerds at BobIsTheOilGuy.

Seafoam can also work but it's mostly an aggressive solvent so yeah of course it'll have an effect.

Write on your hand with a black sharpie. Want it off right away? Grab some iso alcohol. Want it off gradually? Just soap and water.

Remember, a quart of oil is 32 ozs. Adding 1oz of seafoam per quart of oil dilutes the seafoam substantially. On a 5.5 quart system, it is only 5.5 ozs I put about 5 ozs in. You're not going to leave the seafoam in until the next oil change, you're going to do this just before changing the oil. May be a 10/15-minute idle time then change the oil. I've driven mine about a two-mile round trip, changed the oil and filter, and moved on, needed to make a quick trip to the auto store. I did my last oil change with Valvoline Restore and Protect and I also looked down my oil fill tube and it looks pretty clean in there.

this is exactly what I’m going to do. Maybe drive the truck for about 50-100 miles before the oil change tho. Thank you.
