The rust/dirt was over an inch deep.



This is what was lurking behind the fuel tank.



GM used some thin rubber like undercoat on the frame, it did a good job - at clogging up the tiny 3/16" drain holes that is.

That long gap was welded together originally.




This is going to be a long one, good thing I'm retired -- I guess.

 

On the positive the sticker on the driveshaft is like new.

 

The point of my driving 600 miles yesterday was to get this:



A factory 1966 quarter panel, not to common.

Question:
Obviously the bottom pocket of the quarter rusts first & worst.

Oddly patch panels aren't available for a 58 year old 4 door car.

Now that I have a "master" can any of you Wrenchmen think of a way to make a die to form the lower section from the character line down?

 

Dollars to doughnuts some whipper snapper probably Coles age could 3d print you a die to use. It's a deep rabbit hole, but there are sites out there where people make public their 3d files for others for free. Maybe with your measurements and a few bucks they could print you one.

This could be totally illogical and unfeasible it's just the first thing that hopped in my head.
