Ran over a fat nail with a new tire, about 10k mi. Two shops say it's not repairable

We *assume* its in the tread block, and that the nail is of insufficient length or angle to touch a wall (even after deflation), AND that the tire was not driven on during complete deflation.


If it meets those, plug it. But since I, an imaginary internet personality that does not exist in anyone else's physical world, cannot verify those easily met conditions, I'm not going to recommend plugging.

 

So… How often should you change the tire plug? Every 6 months, or every 5k miles?

 

Never.

If, by chance, it starts leaking, you can put a new one it. I have never had this happen.

Pulled this out of my old 255/85/16 Yoko G003 3 weeks ago. Plugged it and was fine until fedex deliver the new coopers last Friday. Plug and go.

 

Judging by the pic you posted OP, that may or may not be able to be plugged.

He -did- see it. It’s the tire leaning up behind the stump. Absolutely may or may not be able to be plugged. (Video geolocated to NE Massahampshire by CNN.)

Same here. Once a while, like every few months, I just have to add more air to plugged tires.
