Yep I understand that perfectly. I have cnc milling experience so its at least similar in that case but a little more mathematical

I wish I could just dial it in for him but he thinks the quality is good enough. He compares to angle grinder cuts

I've seen (and used) worse on a hot humid day here. I'd guess a combination of slightly 'wet' air and running too fast for the amperage used.

yes, i must. my welding leads are only 6', and the cord off the welder is only 4'.

i use a 14ga 25' cord throughout the garage, and have also tried a 100' 12ga cord on an isolated 20A circuit that's directly off the panel. the speed that the breakers trip is roughly the same.

i need to re-wire the garage with 60A 240v, it's just not cheap, or a major priority.. priced out some of it today, and was around $300-400 in materials--which isn't terrible by itself, but once i re-wire, i'll be looking at vehicle lifts, and larger welders, which is far more expensive than not having the current capability for it!

his settings suck. far too much bevel. we've got 45A and 85A plasma's at work, and either will give me a smoother cut line ran by hand in mild steel.

    here's eastwoods own example cut:

important to note, speaking as someone with an eastwood welder-- their stuff is what i'd call 'garage fab pretty', where the specs all line up, the form factor and parts look good, and the price is attractive, but after running them for a while, the fact that they're re-branding cheap knockoff brands starts to become somewhat evident.

Remember running 110 stuff on 220 cuts the amperage in half.

    Anything at/over 15amps and I'm using 10g wire. 14g, no way Jose.

I run all my 240v stuff off an extension cord. but that is because I do not have 240v in my garage. Years ago I installed a 50amp 240v RV outlet on the side of the house right under the main breaker panel.

I then run off a super heavy duty 24 foot extension cord. not only is it #6 but it is also rated at 105C. I got it for a steal of a price since it was miscut, the sales rep let me have it for $15 since they wanted it out of inventory.

here is a 125' or so of #6 but rated at 90C

The 90c stuff was salvage from a high mast light that got a rewire. I can still get a couple nice extension cords from this last bit of cable.

How about 12 parallel runs of 750mcm with 500mcm neutral? This was from a 2500kva transformer that feed a water chiller.

So you're telling me I should run a laser CNC instead?

Can you build me the control box IE enclosure, power supply, drivers, and wiring?

Your setup came out clean as hell.

that was an absolute STEAL. scrap value is at least twice that.

i'm looking at about 75ft of 6-3 uf cable, which works out to about $300, then i need a 8-16 space sub panel, figure out where to mount it, a few sticks of 1-1/2" pvc, some LB's to go into each building, a few breakers on each side, plus the additional 240v welding, a few additional 120v outlets, and an rv outlet i'd want..

my issue is rarely getting things done. it's always been project bloat/feature creep that usually quadruples my initial cost estimates.
