I have been on the fence about getting 4 of the 42601-AD030 wheels and painting them silver for my ride. The 42601-AD041 and 42601-AD030 (both of which are steel) are tough wheels that you don't have to worry about messing up.

The 42601-AD050 is another Tacoma factory steel wheel but I never liked that one. 17" spare

So my son got a nail in his tire so we decided now was a good time to swap in the TRD OR wheels and install the 3rd gen TRD OR suspension.

    After

We also swapped out the old bucket seats for 3rd gen seats we picked up off FB marketplace.

I’ll have the truck for a few months when my son goes off to basic and MOS training. I’m thinking of surprising my son with a bed cover and metal rear bumper Any other suggestions?

Won't be for you if yours is a 2013, at least not from internal seat airbag functionality. If you are ok with the loss of internal seat airbags, then pretty easy install.

Bikinaz - It already has cruise control :)

So I can only answer for my own application. This truck is a 2006 Prerunner, so it came with bucket seats and no airbags from the factory.
For us, the bolts just lined up and it was a direct replacement. We had to swap seat belt buckles because the 3rd gen seat belt buckle did not work on the 2nd gen.
We also swapped out the wiring harness from the old seats into the new seats. It was a plug and play affair.
Since our 06 did not come with airbags, there was nothing to plug into the air bag plug on the 3rd gen seats.

I've read that 03-09 4runner seats are also a bolt on, but not sure about any of the wiring or seat belt buckle. Good luck.

Are the 3rd gen seats really an upgrade? When my truck was in the shop, they gave me a 2019 Tacoma to drive around. That seat would bother my back driving more than an hour or two. The seat geometry is different. I can drive my 2nd gen all day, and never have back problems.

I guess everyone is different. But for real, my second gen has the best seats of any vehicle I have ever ridden in, they never bother me. 3rd gen seats would be a downgrade for this guy

Passenger bucket seat in my relatives '11 single cab rattles something nasty when unoccupied and not finely adjusted to stop the rattle
Is there a known fix to this issue ?

For us, the old seats are almost 20 years old and the foam was deteriorating and sagging on the left side, so these 3rd gen seats are a huge upgrade. I agree that the 3rd gen seats are not as comfortable, so we installed seat jackers but took them off because the angle it created makes my left leg uncomfortable when using the clutch.

Check and make sure the seats are bolted on tight? Also there is some wiring under the seat. Make sure are secured on. Some zip ties might be a good idea. Good luck.

Do you have OEM buckets to begin with? My guess is yes since you have SR5 package.

I am in agreement with you that the 3rd gen buckets aren't great and I didn't like the factory oem 2nd gen bench seat as well. Generally speaking, OEM toyota seats in the Tacoma are just horrible but if I had to stick with OEM buckets, it would have been the 2nd gen buckets over the 3rd gen buckets. Something went wrong it seems like when they redesigned the seats for 3rd gen.

Yeah I have buckets. Guess it would be a worthy upgrade for someone with a bench for sure.

Wrapped up my 2015 steering wheel swap. Was surprisingly easy, but a little time consuming. My truck wasn't prewired for anything so I made my own harnesses from scratch. Found most of the information from various sources on here or other forums. For the cruise control I used the rostra instructions as reference (these are poorly written). ALL steering wheel controls are operational and I also added cruise control. Parts, total cost, and reference material utilized for any one interested.

    1) 2015 Tacoma Steering wheel with BT/Audio Controls (Used) -$145
    2) Toyota Tacoma OEM Cable Spiral 84306-48030 / 84306-0E010 - $90.29
    3) Toyota repair terminals - $80.00 https://www.ebay.com/itm/191328057918
    4) Toyota Cruiser Control Clutch Switch 88280-14030 Genuine OEM - $24.99
    5) Electrical wire (I had some laying around the garage. I used 20 AWG)

    Total Cost: $340.28

First Tacoma was an auto regular cab, sold it for a civic, got into a 2022 Tacoma, then a 2023 manual hellcat, and missed the regular cab so much had to get another! One owner, just needed a rear main seal and brakes. All in for 10,500!

It’s been nice getting caught up on everyone’s projects lately, always motivating to start some of my own! I just had new tires installed today, switched from 255/75r17 KO2’s to 255/80r17 Toyo Open Country AT3’s. Very stoked on them and love the way they look! IMG_4070.jpg

Finally pulled the trigger on some bucket seats. They should be here soon. Been wanting to do this swap for awhile now.
