If the tech fucked up he would lie and not mention it to the “service writer” to not get in trouble

he’s not going to be ya I fucked up and I’m too lazy to fish out your old plug so we are going to charge you 40 bucks for a new one

oh I was an assistant store manager of an express lube when I was 18/19, I usually tried to avoid jiffy lube "techs" unless id had a long talk and got them going about the work they had done

The next gas stop after an oil change, I always check the oil to verify that it wasn't under or overfilled.

Are you 1000% sure the video they gave you was your truck? Any identifying features on it that would tell you it's not another Taco that's the same color? Date/time stamp on the video?

Makes sense. I'll watch the video closely and see if it looks like he gets a new plug.

It's my truck. That's the first thing I checked, actually. The bed liner is pretty distinctive.

It is a new plug there’s no debate about that it’s who and from where, ask your mechanic to check to see if that plug isn’t cross threaded into your pan

so the switch just simply opens the ground and your light comes.

So th light in the dash always has power. The pressure switch only has one wire going to it it’s what grounds the circuit. Once there is pressure on the switch it causes an open circuit and the light goes off. That why when you turn the key on the oil light is on and once you start it and enough pressure builds up on the switch the light goes off.

in extremely extremely elementary explanation your car’s electric system is grounded multiple points so a bad ground can cause a turn signal to not properly work for example or other electrical gremlins hence why he asked about the light and he ruled out the ground because it did come on when your engine siezed

Well if it was PARKED and the oil leaked out over eleven days the undercarriage wouldn't have any oil on it, right? Have you checked the ground where it was parked?

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Jiffy Lube put in about a quart...enough to develop oil pressure but not enough for long term lubrication. The oil probably broke down because of overheating, causing a lack of proper lubrication. Eventually, a bearing spun and destroyed the engine.

If this isn’t some type of Friday fuckery thread and this really happened, which I tend to believe since a photo of the oil plug was published. Also having claimed to see a video of them servicing the truck. I would start looking around and seeing if some how they didn’t put oil where it shouldn’t have gone. It’s jiffy lube so I guess you should assume they could have put it anywhere. Washer reservoir, radiator, brake fluid reservoir, tranny fill, etc. this would be really hard to screw up, and in most cases impossible to get that many quarts of oil in. But I guess you have to start somewhere.

if that all checks out, then either they didn’t really put oil in the truck or there is a hole or something in the side of the block that someone missed. It shouldn’t just up and disappear. When the mechanic said bone dry, was it really bone dry? Did he pull the drain plug and oil filter and have nothing come out? If so, seems like more proof that actually nothing was added.

I wouldn’t have thought it would have made it that long on a road trip driving at high speeds with absolutely 0 oil. but it isn’t possible. But seems very odd that the oil pressure light didn’t come on either.

She said at least a dozen times there was never any oil on the ground under where it was parked.

Thank you! So if the light was off, the pressure was fine? No other possibility?

Oh I will. I'm so grateful for all your help. I will absolutely let you know what the mechanic tells me once he takes the engine out.

I love the answers. Radiator? Brake reservoir? Really?! How big is your brake reservoir? Radiator overflow?

The only reasonable answer is that there was only enough oil in that engine to maintain pressure. It's entirely reasonable to believe that their drum went empty and nobody noticed and the dipstick check was half-assed.
